Obama: Michelle and 'Luxury' Not to Work

With all due respect, Obama is not too bright.

After a term as President of the United States, I would expect the allegedly brilliant Obama to be more politically savvy.

The guy is a lawyer. He went to Harvard. He was president of the Harvard Law Review.

So why does this educated man say such stupid stuff?

Hasn't Obama learned that his words when idiotic, as they often are, will come back to bite him?

Example: Video, via Breitbart.

Transcript, from Hot Air.

OBAMA: And then there’s the woman who once me advised me at the law firm in Chicago where we met. Once, uh, she gave me very good advice. That’s why I decided to marry her. And once Michelle and I had our girls, she gave it her all to balance raising a family and pursuing a career. And something that, could be very difficult on her, because I was gone a lot. Once I was in the state legislature, I was teaching, I was practicing law, I’d be traveling. And we didn’t have the luxury for her not to work. And I know when she was with the girls she’d feel guilty that she wasn’t giving enough time to her work, and when she was at work, she was feeling guilty she wasn’t giving enough time for the girls. And like many of you, we both wish there were machines that could let us be in two places at once.

Obama makes it sound as if Michelle was forced to work, that they couldn't make ends meet without her paycheck.

Again, with all due respect, Obama is acting like a fool. His claims are ludicrous.

The Obamas' income makes his assertion that they didn't have the "luxury" of Michelle being able to stay home with the kids absolutely laughable.

In 2005, when Obama began serving in the U.S. Senate (and his daughters turned 4 and 7), he and his wife were earning a combined annual income of $479,062. Barack Obama was paid a salary of $162,100 by the U.S. taxpayers, and Michelle Obama was paid $316,962 to handle community affairs for the University of Chicago Medical Center.

Obama seems utterly out of touch with what most Americans earn.

We're supposed to buy that the Obamas couldn't survive on one of their salaries?

Come on!

Families makes choices and live their priorities.

Having a spouse stay at home to raise the children, as Mitt and Ann Romney did, will have an impact on the family's income, but it's a choice some prefer to having their children raised by strangers.

Obama and Michelle were making good money when they had kids.

This "we didn't have the luxury for her not to work" is a load of crap.

It's an insult to those of us getting by on a lot less and managing to live well and be happy, thankful for our many blessings.

Hey, Obama! We know you're a rich guy. You left the middle class long, long ago.

Tell the truth for a change.

You are out of touch with Americans.

And you're a liar, with all due respect.
