Oh, good grief!
Newsweek declares Obama to be the first gay president.
Andrew Sullivan delivers some psychobabble
"on why it shouldn't be surprising—Obama's life as a biracial man has deep ties to the gay experience."
Last week he did it—in a move whose consequences are simply impossible to judge. White House sources told me that after the interview with ABC News, the president felt as if a weight had been lifted off him. Yes, he was bounced into it by Joe Biden, the lovable Irish-Catholic rogue who couldn’t help but tell the truth about his own views on TV (only to be immediately knocked down by David Axelrod on Twitter). But Obama had been planning to endorse gay marriage before his reelection for a while. White House sources say that if Obama had been a state senator in New York last year when the Albany legislature legalized gay marriage, he’d have voted in favor. But no one asked. The “make news” reveal was scheduled for The View. In the end, scrambling to catch up with his veep, he turned to his fellow ESPN fan, Robin Roberts, a Christian African-American from Mississippi, to quell the sudden kerfuffle. Even this was calculated: to have this moment occur between two African-Americans would help Obama calm opposition within parts of the black community.
I don't care about this. I just don't care. I'm sick of hearing it.
Obama said what we all already knew. So what? Nothing has changed.
The rainbow halo above Obama's head is really lame - the divine Obama, patron saint of gays, though he really hasn't done anything but state an opinion.
So, according to Sullivan, Obama planned to make his historic announcement on The View. THE VIEW.
The president of the United States planned to make his "historic" announcement on THE VIEW?
Barbara Walters must be really ticked off at Joe Biden for putting a wrench in that plan.
Obama's legacy as president seems to be the trivialization of the office.
If people want to beatify Obama for saying, "I think same-sex couples should be able to get married," that's their business. Worship him. Whatever.
I'm not completely convinced Biden didn't know what he was doing when he became the first sitting gay vice president. (Remember, former Vice President Dick Cheney came out in favor of gay marriage years ago.)
I think it's possible Biden, in his role as national buffoon, was sent out to tee up the issue for Obama. Of course, it's possible there was nothing intentional about it and Biden was just being the buffoon we know him to be.
In any case, Obama was able to capitalize on the issue by making his alleged "historic announcement" on the eve of his glitzy Hollywood fundraiser hosted by Hollywood liberal royal, George Clooney.
Obama also has given the liberal media a focus that deflects from his massive list of failures. Gay marriage is in the spotlight rather than Obama's economy from hell.
Gay marriage isn't high on my list of concerns when it comes to the 2012 election. In fact, it's not on the list at all.
This election is about the economy.
Americans, gay or straight or whatever, are all suffering under Obama.
There are no jobs. If you're lucky enough to have one, job security is an issue. Home values have plunged. People are really struggling.
I don't know anyone better off today than they were four years ago.
Talking about gay marriage, given the dire economic circumstances so many of us are facing, is crazy.
Instead of declaring Obama to be the first gay president, he should be labeled the first gay president to bring misery to millions of Americans.
