Tanya Dixon-Neely

UPDATE, June 19, 2012: North Rowan teacher in video controversy will keep job

The North Rowan High School teacher who told students it’s criminal to speak ill of the president will keep her job with the Rowan-Salisbury School System.

Although Tanya Dixon-Neely has been suspended without pay, she will return next school year, when she will be required to start a monitored growth plan, Superintendent Dr. Judy Grissom said in a press release.

The district received national attention when a nearly 10-minute video of Dixon-Neely and senior Hunter Rogers engaging in a heated political debate went viral. In the video, the Dixon-Neely can be heard telling Rogers that he could be criminally charged for speaking ill of President Obama and that people had been charged for insulting former President George W. Bush.

“As I have stated to our entire school system staff, I expect all teachers to be professional during class discussion and not to force their personal or political views on students, demean students, or instruct students on what to believe,” Grissom said in the release. “Teachers must create a positive instructional environment conducive to learning within the guidelines of our state curriculum.

“Ms. Dixon-Neely’s failure to meet these standards during the recorded portion of class is the basis for my disciplinary action against her.”

But Grissom said school administrators report the recording does not reflect Dixon-Neely’s usual performance as a teacher.

I don't care what her "usual performance as a teacher" allegedly is.

Her actions were so egregious she deserves to be fired.

Tanya Dixon-Neely - another liberal teacher from hell.

From Ben Shapiro, Breitbart's Big Government:

A YouTube video uploaded on Monday afternoon apparently shows a schoolteacher from the Rowan-Salisbury school district in North Carolina informing a student that failing to be respectful of President Obama is a criminal offense. Breitbart News has uncovered that the student is a high school junior, and that the teacher is apparently one Tanya Dixon-Neely.

The video shows a classroom discussion about the Washington Post hit piece about Mitt Romney bullying a kid some five decades ago. One student says, “Didn’t Obama bully someone though?” The teacher says: “Not to my knowledge.” The student then cites the fact that Obama, in Dreams from My Father, admits to shoving a little girl. “Stop, no, because there is no comparison,” screams the teacher. Romney is “running for president. Obama is the president.”

The student responds that both are “just men.”

The teacher yells -- literally yells -- that Obama is “due the respect that every other president is due … Listen,” she continues, “let me tell you something, you will not disrespect the president of the United States in this classroom.” She yells over the student repeatedly, and yells at him that it's disrespect for him to even debate about Romney and Obama.

This teacher is a disgrace.

She's abusive. She's a liar. She's completely out of control.

I think she'd get along well with Fred Levenhagen.

North Rowan teacher suspended
Rowan-Salisbury Schools officials suspended a North Rowan High School teacher Monday while investigating an incident caught on camera where the teacher told a student he could be arrested for speaking ill of President Barack Obama.

...Dixon-Neely has been suspended with pay, according to Rowan-Salisbury School System Spokeswoman Rita Foil.

...“The Rowan-Salisbury School System expects all students and employees to be respectful in the school environment and for all teachers to maintain their professionalism in the classroom. This incident should serve as an education for all teachers to stop and reflect on their interaction with students.”

A Salisbury Post reporter went to Dixon-Neely's home for comment this morning, but no one answered the door. Calls to her number have gone unanswered and there is no answering machine.

I don't think being suspended with pay is appropriate.

The woman ran amok in the classroom.

Her behavior was so egregious that I think she should be fired.

The screaming and shrieking was bad, but the lies were inexcusable.

In terms of her teaching ability, she just gave a master class via YouTube on what NOT to do in the classroom.

This so-called teacher is a BULLY!
She is totally out of control.
Kudos to the young man who simply "axed" a question.
In Ms. Dixon-Neely's classroom, that is how asked would be spelled...."axed!"
Placed on a paid suspension, is not a suspension, it is a "Vacation!"
