'Walker' Injured in Cudahy Parade (Video)

When I saw this posted on Twitter by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, I was shocked.

Walker was injured?

I clicked the link and the story was not at all what the tweet suggested.

Governor Walker wasn't injured.

Here's the headline of the story: "Marcher in Cudahy parade injured when participating driver strikes him."

Of course, it's a terrible accident and very troubling; but it didn't involve Wisconsin's governor.

"Walker" should not have been used. Who calls a veteran carrying the American flag in a parade "Walker"?

"The WTMJ News Team," whatever that means (Radio? TV? Both?), has the details.

Two veterans were hurt after a car in the Cudahy Fourth of July parade lost control and struck a marcher Wednesday.

The parade was coming to an end on Armour and Lake Drive when an 87-year-old man driving a Chrysler PT Cruiser in the parade sped up, lost control, and ran over someone marching in the route, witnesses said.

"The car hit him in the back of the legs and kept going," witness Kathy Koshgarian said. "It through him up above about 14 feet he came back down on the car."

"He hit his head on the windshield and rolled off the side of the car."

The driver then continued down the road, crashing through barricades, before Cudahy police were finally able to stop the car a few blocks away.

...Investigators believe the driver may suffered some type of heat or medical condition. Witnesses said the man he hit was conscious but had severe head injuries and complained of a tingling sensation in his legs.

The driver was treated for a heat stroke.

Here's video of the accident:

How horrible! What a frightening video!

Here's TMJ4's news report:

Thankfully, the victim will survive.

When the driver of the car lost consciousness, he could have veered into the crowd and hit many people. As bad as the accident was, it could have been far worse.

Note to the Journal Sentinel:

Phrase your tweets more carefully.

Didn't anyone catch that "Walker in Cudahy parade injured when participating driver strikes him" could be misleading?

A veteran carrying the American flag while marching in a 4th of July parade isn't called "Walker."
