Thomas Peterffy

I wish every American would have an opportunity to hear Thomas Peterffy's story.

He's voting for Republicans in November because he understands the misery of living under a socialist regime.

From FOX News:

It's one of the more personal ads of the 2012 campaign.

But no presidential campaign or super PAC is behind it. Rather, a new TV ad and Web video that warns of the ills of socialism while urging America to vote Republican next month is financed by Hungarian-born billionaire Thomas Peterffy.

In the video, Peterffy recalls his childhood under socialism in Hungary, and says, "The nation became poorer and poorer. And that's what I see happening here." He warns that the United States, his adopted country, is embarking on a "slippery slope."

He continues: "America's wealth comes from the efforts of people striving for success. Take away their incentive with badmouthing success and you take away the wealth that helps us take care of the needy. Yes, in socialism the rich will be poorer -- but the poor will also be poorer. People will lose interest in really working hard and creating jobs."

The ad does not mention President Obama or Mitt Romney once. But in a campaign season where Obama is often accused by Republicans of attacking the wealthy, the target is apparent. Peterffy reportedly plans to spend millions to air the ad in the weeks before Election Day.

The USA is certainly not going to become a socialist country under President Obama or any other politician. The government will not control the means of production or any businesses. We do run a health care system for our military but that is not socialism. You may have grown up with the evils of a devastated post-WWII economy and you regret that your people did not have enough gumption to work to restore their country without being bribed. What you are missing is an experience living in a plutocracy. The rich get richer and more powerful, everyone else is left to sink into poverty. This country has had that experience from the Civil War to the 1930s. The right-wing forgets this hard lesson - at their own peril. You are not the person to speak to America about economic control systems. Your experience is not an American experience, the Hungarians are not Americans. You have no experience with equates to that of America. You need to study our history first and not just try to conflate your un-American experience with our republic.

Yes ! I agree 100 % with this statement. My dear mom raised up in Hungary under huge financial and political pressure. I am a minister (with Hebrew knowledge) who would like to work, but among this declining life-threatening circumstances NO hope! The present way is socialist, which is against the freedom !
Thank you for the inspiration. Francis Gaal

Yes, very well said by Mr.Peterffy, founder of Interactive Brokers. We need to save Capitalism, potentially the best system in the world . But here in the good old USA, few overly greedy profit mongers are in the process of killing the Goose that lays Golden Eggs- they are not happy with the eggs that are laid outside, but the undeveloped eggs that are still inside the Goose ! Mother Goose needs just a bit of protection so that Capitalism is preserved for future generations.

Well, I grew up in Hungary too! I was born in 1963 and I had free schooling, free healthcare! My doctor came to my house to exam my daughter when she was sick. I had a weekend house, two cars a great job and I never was affraid losing my job or not able to pay for my hospitalization! We tend to forget where we came from and what did we learn along the way! If anybody want to find out how the people live in Hungary now and how they live in the 70's, 80"s and 90's all they would have to do is: Ask the citizens of Hungary today! Socializm or capitalizm both can be great! Both system is the reflection of the government in charge! But if the politicians are taking care of their own agenda and pockets instead of caring for the citizens who elected them, not the people in the capitalizm nor the ones in the socializm will be able to live and thrive.
