Ivan Lopez: Fort Hood Shooter

Terrible news from Fort Hood--

From USA Today:

A gunman killed three people before shooting himself to death in an attack Wednesday at Fort Hood, the same base that was the scene of the worst attack on a domestic U.S. military installation five years ago, officials said.

Lt. Gen. Mark Milley, head of the Army's III Corps at the Texas base, said the shooter was a veteran of combat in Iraq who had "mental health issues and was being treated for that."

"At this time there is no indication that this incident is related to terrorism, although we are not ruling anything out and the investigation continues," Milley said.

He said 16 people were wounded in the shooting attack. All those wounded and killed were military personnel, Milley said.
From FOX News:
A soldier suffering from "mental health issues" opened fire at Fort Hood Wednesday, killing three soldiers and injuring 16 before killing himself, a post Army general said.

Army Lt. Gen. Mark Milley, the senior officer at the facility, also said at an evening news conference that there was no indication of terrorism, but added "we're not ruling anything out."

He said the shooter, identified earlier as Spc. Ivan Lopez, was armed with a .45 caliber Smith & Wesson and killed himself when confronted by military police in a parking lot.

Milley said he did not know any motive for the incident, but the shooter, who had served four months in combat in Iraq in 2011, had "behavioral and mental health issues" and was being treated for those.

The shooter was married with a family and had arrived at Fort Hood in February, Milley said. He did not identify the shooter by name, saying his family had not yet been notified. However, senior U.S. officials earlier named Lopez as the shooter.
When did Lopez stop?

When he was confronted by military police.

From the New York Times:
The authorities said Specialist Lopez appeared to have walked into one building, then gone inside a vehicle and fired shots from the vehicle with a .45-caliber Smith & Wesson semiautomatic pistol that had recently been bought in the Killeen area. He got out of the vehicle, walked into another building and opened fire again, and then engaged with a female military police officer before shooting himself.

He put his hands up, General Milley said, then reached under his jacket. The female officer pulled out her weapon, and then Specialist Lopez put his weapon to his head and fired. General Milley described the officer’s actions as “clearly heroic,” adding: “She did her job. She did exactly what we would expect of U.S. Army military police.”
Lopez killed himself when it was clear he couldn't kill anyone else.

A gun ended the bloodshed.

Lopez apparently was suffering with "mental health issues." It's horrific that he chose to murder innocent people, going on a shooting spree before he committed suicide.

It's also horrific to exploit the shooting victim for political purposes.

This tweet from Graeme Zielinski is disgusting:

Equating serving in the U.S. military with committing murder is disgraceful.

Zielinski demeans the service of all veterans with this despicable tweet.

"War begets war."

Rather than thanking members of the U.S. military for their commitment to defending freedom, protecting and liberating millions through their sacrifice, Zielinski spits on them.

Sadly, it's typical Leftist drivel.
