Favre: Packers Hall of Fame, Jersey Retired

It's inevitable.

Of course, Brett Favre will be inducted into the Packers Hall of Fame.

Of course, his number will be retired by the Packers.

I'm resigned to that inevitability.

From USA Today:

Former Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre will be inducted into the Packers Hall of Fame in 2015 and have his No. 4 retired some time after this season.

It was unclear whether the number retirement would come next season as well, but it will not be in 2014.

Favre confirmed the news Sunday night in a statement on his website.

...The team is planning a joint announcement at 2:30 p.m. ET Monday afternoon along with the Packers Hall of Fame, the Packers said Sunday night in a press release.

Favre will join the event via teleconference.
Oh. Favre will be participating in the announcement via teleconference.

Why do that? He could just text a few photos. That would work.

...The announcement, which will take place in the new Hall of Fame under construction in the Lambeau Field Atrium, comes shortly after a series of remarks regarding Favre's inevitable return to Green Bay.

Murphy, speaking to reporters last month, said he didn't anticipate retiring the former quarterback's number this year. At the time, Murphy expressed concern over Packers fans potentially booing Favre.

"That is an issue," Murphy told reporters at the time. "He doesn't want it, and neither do we. He wouldn't want to come back and get booed. You can't control 80,750 people."

...Said Murphy: "I'm very hopeful that when he comes back it will be fully supported by our fans."
Keep hoping, Murphy.

"Fully supported"?

No. That won't happen.

Repeatedly, over the span of several years, Favre actively sought to undermine the Packers, in word and deed. He went out of his way to be a jerk.

2015 is way too soon to expect fans to embrace Favre.

I'm not interested in any reconciliation at all.

From FOX Sports:

Hatchet buried? Brett Favre to be inducted into Packers Hall of Fame

The Packers' roller-coaster relationship with Brett Favre will come full circle on Monday, when the two parties will announce that the legendary QB will be inducted into the team's Hall of Fame next summer. In addition, Favre announced the Packers will retire his No. 4, which he wore for 16 seasons in Green Bay.

Favre posted the news to his official website, and FOX Sports NFL Insider Mike Garafolo confirmed Favre's Packers Hall induction Sunday night. According to ESPN, when exactly the jersey retirement would take place is not yet known.
Nope.

No hatchet is buried.

Nothing is coming full circle.

Let the Vikings retire No. 4. Let Favre go into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in purple.

Read Favre's statement:

I'm pleased to announce that I will be returning to Green Bay, Wisconsin in 2015 for induction into the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame and retirement of my jersey.

It was a tremendous honor to play 16 years for the Green Bay Packers. Now to have my name placed among others such as Starr, Hornung, Kramer, Taylor, Lambeau, Nitschke, Lombardi, Davis, White and Hutson is a special honor that I share with all of my teammates and coaches, and that would not have been possible but for the foresight of Ron Wolf, the greatest GM In the history of the NFL.

I'm truly looking forward to celebrating and sharing this special moment with all of the great fans of the Green Bay Packers.

Go Packers!

Brett
I'm sorry but that's just nauseating.

"Go Packers"?

Really?

That's impossible to swallow.

I know the Packers have to honor Favre. He was with the team for so long and he did help deliver one championship.

We can't act as if that era didn't happen.

However, I can't act as if Favre's horrible behavior, the things he said and did after he left the Packers, didn't happen.

What great news! We're putting a jerk in the Packers Hall of Fame and have to retire his number eventually!

Yay. I'm thrilled.
