Oscars: Viola Davis

Viola Davis won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress, and gave an impassioned acceptance speech.

I thought this was a bit bizarre:

VIOLA DAVIS: I became an artist, and thank God I did, because we are the only profession that celebrates what it means to live a life.
Oh good grief!

She's so wrong.

So many other professions celebrate "what it means to live a life."

The only way Davis' statement could be true is if doctors, nurses, EMTs, police officers, teachers, caregivers, clergymen, members of the military, and an endless list of other devoted, passionate people are considered "artists" in their fields.
