Robert De Niro: Uplifting Drama, Dumbass Comedy

From the Daily Wire:

The New Yorker spoke on Sunday to a class of Brown University graduates, and also picked up an honorary doctorate of fine arts. So, Doctor De Niro took the opportunity to bash the country that gave a boy who grew up in Little Italy a world of opportunity.

De Niro says that “in movie terms,” America was once “an inspiring uplifting drama” but now has turned into “a tragic dumbass comedy.” He urged the graduates to “work to stop the insanity” and to do everything they can to make the world better.

The day before the commencement ceremony, the actor also called the current political climate “nightmarish” and referred to President Trump as an “idiot.” De Niro has also called Trump "a bullsh*t artist… who doesn’t know what he’s talking about." And remember that De Niro said "I'd like to punch him in the face."

In his time with the young students, De Niro noted that Trump vowed to shake things up. "You know what, now, you did shake it up, buddy. You shook it up real well. But now we have to get back to reality. And you guys have to do it. That’s all I have to say. Plus us. But you guys. It’s your future," he said.

ROBERT De NIRO: In movie terms, when you started school, the country was an inspiring, uplifting drama. You're graduating into a tragic, dumbass comedy.

That is an unfortunate comment.

De Niro shouldn't bring up "dumbass" comedies because they have become the focus of his career.

He once gave great performances in great films, but now he has become a caricature, floundering in dumbass comedies.

His anti-Trump tirades only serve to diminish his stature even more. It's too bad.
