The Greatest Show on Earth

To put it in perspective, using the signing of the Declaration of Independence as the birth of the United States of America, this circus has been entertaining Americans for 146 of its nearly 241 years.

What began in Baraboo, Wisconsin predates radio and movies.

Imagine what a big deal it was when the circus came to town in the years prior to mass media entertainment platforms. Even after people were flocking to movie palaces to see silent films and later talkies, when the nation was enthralled with radio and then TV, the circus still provided a unique, live experience.

It brought joy and wonder and thrills to millions of Americans, since shortly after the Civil War.

The Greatest Show on Earth ends its run tonight.
