Bergdahl: No Prison Time

From CNN:

Bowe Bergdahl received a dishonorable discharge from the US Army, but will avoid prison time for desertion and misbehavior before the enemy after abandoning his outpost in Afghanistan in 2009, a military judge ruled Friday.
The judge ordered that Bergdahl's rank be reduced from sergeant to private. Additionally, Bergdahl will be required to pay a $1,000 fine from his salary for the next 10 months.

No prison time for Bowe Bergdahl.

Disgraceful.

Bowe Bergdahl: Desertion

Bowe Bergdahl pleads guilty to desertion.

I don't think Bergdahl "served the United States with honor and distinction."

Obama and Susan Rice have a very different view of reality.

Progressives Gotta Lie

Victor Davis Hanson comes through with another important piece, this one on the lies being pushed by progressives at American universities and beyond.

He writes:
The entire menu of race, class, and gender identity politics, lead-from-behind foreign policy, political correctness, and radical environmentalism so far have not won over most Americans.

Proof of that fact are the serial reliance of their supporters on deception, and the erosion of language on campus and in politics and the media. The progressive movement requires both deceit and euphemism to mask its apparently unpopular agenda.

What the Benghazi scandal, the Bowe Bergdahl swap, and the Iran Deal all had in common was their reliance on ruse. If the White House and its allies had told the whole truth about all these incidents, Americans probably would have widely rejected the ideological premises that framed them.
Hanson describes the environment on today's college campuses:
No one wishes to discuss candidly that universities are no longer free bastions of inquiry but are descending into would-be boot camps to train progressive shock troops. Careers, reputations, and lots of money are invested in stifling free expression, a project predicated on changing the nature of students, the curricula, and the very atmosphere of the traditional university.

The predicable result is again linguistic subterfuge.

If unprepared students are frustrated that special admittance does not de facto equate to college success or graduation, the university must make the necessary Animal Farm–like adjustments. Segregation by race and gender becomes “safe spaces.” Ancient stress, the stuff of cramming for finals and paper deadlines, gets embedded into politics, as snowflakes are “traumatized” by a culturally appropriated earring or a gendered pronoun. Free speech that can be challenging and liberate young minds becomes “hate speech” and is banned. Odious censorship is redefined as mere “trigger warnings.”

After analyzing the Leftists' lies on the Benghazi scandal, the Bowe Bergdahl swap, the Iran Deal, the Global Warming/Climate Change "science," and radical Islamic terrorism, Hanson concludes:

Without ruse, there can be no progressive project — as was true in the past of any illogical and unappealing ideology.

In short, you gotta lie.

Without their "linguistic subterfuge," the Leftists would find no buyers for what they're selling.

Thankfully, many Americans see through their lies.

Thankfully, the progressive falsehoods presented with all the progressive bluster, their masked faces, their violence and threats of violence, are rejected by enough Americans to fight their "illogical, unappealing ideology."

Obama: $400 Million to Iran, Cash For Hostages

Obama and Bergdahl

Remember when Obama celebrated a deserter in the Rose Garden?

Mark Steyn does.

Do we usually court martial for desertion and "misbehavior before the enemy" those declared by the National Security Advisor to have "served the United States with honor and distinction"?

No.

Bowe Bergdahl: DESERTION, NOT 'HONOR AND DISTINCTION'

Last year, we were told over and over again that Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl served with "honor and distinction."

Disgusting.

Watch Susan Rice:

From the Weekly Standard:

President Obama's national security adviser, Susan Rice, said on ABC that Bowe Bergdahl "served the United States with honor and distinction" and that "Sergeant Bergdahl wasn't simply a hostage; he was an American prisoner of war captured on the battlefield."

“Certainly anybody who's been held in those conditions, in captivity for five years, has paid an extraordinary price. But that is really not the point. The point is that he's back,” Rice told ABC host George Stephanopoulos when asked whether Bergdahl was a deserter and whether he'd face punishment.

“He is going to be safely reunited with his family. He served the United States with honor and distinction. And we’ll have the opportunity eventually to learn what has transpired in the past years, but what's most important now is his health and well being, that he have the opportunity to recover in peace and security and be reunited with his family. Which is why this is such a joyous day.”

Oh, yes, what a "joyous" day it was!

Susan Rice is an absolute disgrace.

Watch Obama tell the nation that the great Bowe Bergdahl was coming home. It  was a proud moment for Obama.

OBAMA: And he wasn't forgotten by his country, because the United States of America does not, ever, leave our men and women in uniform behind.

Obama looks like a total jackass!

From the Washington Post:

Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, the U.S. soldier who slipped away from his patrol base in Afghanistan in 2009 and was held in captivity for five years, has been charged with desertion and misbehaving before the enemy, Army officials said Wednesday, setting the stage for emotionally charged court proceedings in coming months.

The charges were announced by the service at Fort Bragg, N.C., hours after the 28-year-old was handed a charge sheet, according to one of his attorneys. Bergdahl will next face a preliminary Article 32 hearing, which is frequently compared to a grand jury proceeding in civilian court.

If convicted, he faces the possibility of life in prison.
Bergdahl was released in exchange for FIVE TALIBAN TERRORISTS.

What have those Gitmo detainees done since they were released?

From the New York Post:

At least three of the five Taliban leaders traded last year for Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl have tried to plug back into their old terror networks, a government official familiar with the intelligence told Fox News, describing it as an attempt to “re-engage.”
Nice going, Obama! Good job!

You belong on Mount Rushmore.

Obama embraced Bergdahl and his parents so publicly, declaring the traitor's return as a great victory.

Did he give anywhere near the same recognition to the U.S. soldiers who died searching for Bergdahl?

Of course not. Obama doesn't do the right thing.

From TIME:

Army Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl was freed by the Taliban over the weekend after they held him for nearly five years, in exchange for five Taliban leaders, who will spend a year cooling their heels in Qatar. You might have heard about it on the news.

Chances are you haven’t heard of the six soldiers who died hunting for him after he went missing, according to military officials. Now that Bergdahl has been sprung—in exchange for five senior Taliban officials, who had been imprisoned at Guantanamo—soldiers who served with Bergdahl are grumbling that he deserted and shouldn’t be hailed as a hero, especially given the resulting cost in American lives.
Why haven't we heard of these six soldiers who died because this guy deserted?

OBAMA FAILED TO ACKNOWLEDGE THEIR SACRIFICE.

THE CORRUPT LEFTIST MEDIA DID OBAMA'S BIDDING.

Now, finally, the Leftists are grudgingly admitting Americans died searching for Bergdahl.

Staff Sergeant Clayton Bowen, 29, of San Antonio, Texas, and Private 1st Class Morris Walker, 23, of Chapel Hill, N.C., were killed by a roadside bomb in Paktika province on Aug. 18, 2009, while trying to find Bergdahl. Like Bergdahl, they were part of the 4th BCT from Fort Richardson, Alaska.

Staff Sergeant Kurt Curtiss, 27, of Murray, Utah, died Aug. 26 in Paktika Province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when he was shot while his unit was supporting Afghan security forces during an enemy attack. Like Bergdahl, Bowen and Walker, he was part of the 4th BCT.

2nd Lieutenant Darryn Andrews, 34, of Dallas, Texas, died Sept. 4 in Paktika Province when enemy forces attacked his vehicle with an improvised explosive device and a rocket-propelled grenade. Like Bergdahl, Bowen, Walker and Curtiss, Andrews was part of the 4th BCT.

Staff Sergeant Michael Murphrey, 25, of Snyder, Texas, died Sept. 6 in Paktika province after being wounded by an IED. Like Bergdahl, Bowen, Walker, Curtiss and Andrews, Murphrey was part of the 4th BCT.

On Sept. 4, 2009, Private 1st Class Matthew Martinek, 20, of DeKalb, Ill., was seriously wounded in Paktika province when Taliban forces attacked his vehicle with an improvided explosive device, a rocket-propelled grenade and small-arms fire.
These men died because of Bergdahl, Obama's hero.

Does Obama have a conscience?

Letterman: Obama, Bergdahl and Taliban Swap

I admit this surprises me.

This is very unlike David Letterman to do, to attack Obama's Taliban swap for the release of Bowe Bergdahl.

From Tom Slagle, Breitbart:

The only things lamer than the duck in the White House right now are the late night writers abandoning political satire like their MySpace pages.

If it was any other president in the White House right now, last week would have been a prime rib buffet of political humor. Not only did the President Barack Obama make the worst trade since Cash for Clunkers, the simmering VA scandal is still ripe, and we saw a workout routine that made Richard Simmons look like a Rocky montage.

When there is a story as big as Bowe Bergdahl, it usually finds its way into most every comic's monologue. But last week, most of the hosts never acknowledged it. Conan O'Brien, Jimmy Kimmel, Craig Ferguson and Jimmy Fallon all avoided talking about the hostage swap.

In a surprising twist, reliably liberal David Letterman threw all caution to the wind last week, and uncharacteristically hit the swap every night.
"This was the most controversial trade since I was traded here to CBS."

"The deal originally included Joe Biden"

"Five for One. He apparently got the idea from Jos. A Banks."
Letterman even managed to squeak out this twofer, nailing both scandals Thursday:
"Bowe Bergdahl was over there for five years, he's now recovering in a German hospital, because he couldn't get into a VA facility.”
The only other mention of the trade was by Seth Meyers. The new Late Night host found an unlikely target to aim this single line at:
"Bill O'Reilly asked his viewers if they think if Bowe Bergdahl's father, Robert, was a Islamic sympathizer because he looks like a Muslim. That's like assuming Bill O'Reilly is a Gluten Sympathizer, because he looks like Dough."
I caught this joke from Seth Meyers - exactly what I've come to expect from him. I didn't change the channel soon enough that night.

Late night monologues have become such a wasteland. They're painful to watch.

On Monday, Jimmy Fallon did a few jokes that mentioned Obama and his D-Day gum chewing. But alas, the joke was on Joe Biden. He also mentioned Hillary Clinton and her ridiculous claim that she hasn't decided on a bid for the presidency. Still, nothing on Bergdahl, and nothing too critical of Obama.

I'm glad to hear that Letterman actually did his job, mocking the people in power rather than carrying water for them.

Miss Louisiana, Bowe Bergdahl, and Taliban

It is pathetic that the Miss USA Pageant asks contestants more direct questions and expects more direct answers than the mainstream/Leftist media ask and expect of Obama.

Good answer, Miss Louisiana!

Susan Rice: Obama's Liar

Susan Rice is one of Obama's most prolific liars.

Ben Shapiro writes:

Last week, National Security Advisor Susan Rice appeared on the Sunday shows to do what she does best: lie. She told the American public that Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, for whom President Obama had exchanged five top Taliban commanders, had served with “honor and distinction.”

That, apparently, wasn’t true. As Bergdahl’s compatriots in arms have now told the media, Bergdahl allegedly deserted his post; some evidence has even cropped up suggesting that Bergdahl converted to Islam and embraced jihad.

So, did Rice apologize?

Of course not. On Friday, she doubled down, explaining that when she said that Bergdahl served with “honor and distinction,” she was actually “referring to the fact that this was a young man who volunteered to serve his country in uniform at a time of war. That is itself a very honorable thing.”

...Rice went even further, explaining:
I provided the best information that the U.S. government had at the time. Parts of it turned out to be wrong. I regret that the information I was provided was wrong and that I delivered it to the American people. That doesn't make me a liar.
Here we go again.

This is Benghazi redux.

Rice has no shame; and, apparently, no conscience.

_______________

In addition to Rice, Shapiro highlights four more Obama officials who lied.

Fallon: Bowe Bergdahl Jokes

For days now, the biggest story in the nation has been the release of AWOL/deserter/anti-American Bowe Bergdahl in exchange for the release of five Taliban leaders from Gitmo.

Naturally, The Tonight Show monologue would address the issue, right?

Wrong.

There was absolutely nothing about Bergdahl or the Taliban or the swap. Nothing.

In fact, there was only one joke that included Obama at all. It was about the possibility of Obama living in New York after he leaves the White House. Fallon said that Obama would need two roommates to afford that. Then Fallon did an impression of Obama and some little vignettes of Obama complaining about his roommates drinking his milk and not doing the dishes. It was amazingly lame.

Since Jimmy Fallon took over The Tonight Show, the monologue has taken a dramatically different turn. It's not topical. It's just goofy. That was fine when Fallon was host of Late Night, but I've come to expect a topical monologue from The Tonight Show.

Johnny Carson and Jay Leno always did jokes about the president, both Democrats and Republicans, and the hot topics of the day.

Jimmy Fallon started tonight's monologue with a Rob Ford joke. Oh my God, stop with the Rob Ford jokes!

Fallon appears to be letting his chumminess with the Obamas and his personal politics get in the way of humor.

I really enjoyed Jimmy Fallon's Late Night. He's very talented and likable.

Unfortunately, his monologue sucks. It's not topical. It's not Tonight Show stuff.

It really sucks.

I actually watched a bit of Letterman last night, something I haven't done in years. I wanted to see Letterman interview Donald Trump. It was entertaining-ish.

I really miss the old Tonight Show monologue. Once upon a time, it was topical and funny and didn't mention Rob Ford.

Obama Movie: 'Trading Private Bergdahl'

From Mad magazine:

Recently, President Obama exchanged five Taliban leaders for an American POW, Bowe Bergdahl. One prisoner for five is an iffy trade to begin with — but even moreso when it was revealed that Bergdahl had deserted his post. So, Obama got his man, but there was a lot of collateral damage — it kind of reminds us of a movie we once saw…

"They got five Taliban leaders, we got one deserting weasel."

"The mission is a disaster."

Rated "NC: NO CONGRESSIONAL APPROVAL"

I'm sure Bowe Bergdahl's release isn't exactly going the way Obama had hoped.

Bergdahl Note: Renounces Citizenship

This is really getting to be too much.

No wonder the members of our military who served with Bergdahl are so outraged.

If Obama thought Bergdahl's release was going to help get his White House back in the good graces of the American people, he gravely miscalculated.

Susan Rice and Bowe Bergdahl (Video)

Susan Rice is a disgrace.

The woman actually said to an American national television audience that Bowe Bergdahl served with honor and distinction.

Clearly, the Obama administration is clueless when it comes to understanding what "honor and distinction" means.

Does the intelligence routinely investigate members of our military who serve with "honor and distinction"?

From FOX News:

A senior official confirms to Fox News that the conduct of Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl -- both in his final stretch of active duty in Afghanistan and then, too, during his time when he lived among the Taliban -- has been thoroughly investigated by the U.S. intelligence community and is the subject of "a major classified file."

In conveying as much, the Defense Department source confirmed to Fox News that many within the intelligence community harbor serious outstanding concerns not only that Bergdahl may have been a deserter but that he may have been an active collaborator with the enemy.
Here's video of Rice singing Bergdahl's praises:

This makes me sick.

Joyous?

No.

The Obama administration is a disaster for us.

For these terrorists, however, Obama and his team are a dream come true.

Bob Bergdahl - YouTube Favorites

Walid Shoebat has assembled information about Robert Bowe Bergdahl, father of the soldier released as a result of Obama's deal to let five Taliban terrrorist leaders free from Gitmo.

Robert Bergdahl shares his son's anti-Americanism.

He worships Allah. He's cozy with the Taliban. He's into YouTube jihadist videos.

Shoebat writes:

[A] video favorited by Bergdahl, is a Muslim jihadist terrorist video uploaded by the Afghan Islamic Emirate (the same group the 5 terrorists, who Obama helped released and who Bergdahl praisingly communicated with, were a part of) on August 5, 2013, in which a verse from the Koran is chanted:
Fight them, so that there will be no mischief, and the religion will be all Allah’s (Surah 39)
The rest of the video is in Pharsi:

It appears that Bergdahl speaks Pharsi, since the video is in Pharsi, and he speaks to his son in Pharsi. The video also shows the logo of the Afghan Islamic Emirate. The video also shows dead American soldiers and praises the killing of them.
Shoebat continues:
Bob, Sgt. Bergdahl’s father was also in direct communications with one of the top three Taliban spokespersons named Abdulqader Balkhi. Was he planning to smoke a Hukkah? Drink Afghan tea?

No

He had messaged this top Taliban spokesperson a message for future victories:
I am still working to free all Guantanamo prisoners. God will repay for the death of every afghan child, amen!
Also, if you look up Robert Bowe Bergdahl on Intelius, it says that he worked for the Taliban:

Abdulqahar Balkhi is one of three main spokespersons for the Afghan Islamic Emirate an Islamic terrorist organization, the same terrorist organization who the five terrorist that Obama released were a part of. This makes the entire story very suspicious. Obama trades five Muslims who are part of a terrorist group, for a man whose father is associated with the same terrorist group.

Balkhi is also a spokesperson for the Taliban.

Balkhi was the main spokesperson for Taliban when the U.S. Embassey was attacked in Kabul.

So what did America gain from all this? Nothing, it was the Taliban who gained. Those released were top major terrorist leaders. One of them, Muhammad Fadel, was one of the Taliban’s senior military commanders and the Taliban army Chief of staff of the tenth Division Commander, and the Deputy Secretary of Defense. Another one, Khairullah Khairkhwa, was the interior minister in the Taliban regime. He is also one of the most prominent Taliban officials since its inception in 1994, so he is considered one of the most respected and most influential in the movement. He was detained by Pakistani authorities in 2002 and handed over to the United States , according to the same source.

The other one, Mullah Norullah Noori, was responsible for Balkh province (north) in the Taliban regime. He was arrested in November 2001.

And another one is Abdul Haq Wasiq, deputy director of intelligence in the Taliban regime. He is also one of the founders of the movement and was arrested in late 2001.
Good Lord!

Obama hugged this man, Robert Bergdahl. At the very least, Bergdahl is a terrorist sympathizer. He supports the release of these enemies of our country.

Very troubling.

Bolton: Obama Is Surrendering Afghanistan

If there had been any question as to Obama's intent to secure victory in Afghanistan, there is no longer any doubt.

Obama's prisoner swap with the Taliban clarifies that.

John Bolton writes, "He is surrendering in Afghanistan."

From the New York Post:

Despite Obama’s customarily exaggerated rhetoric, his agreement constituted a substantial setback for America both in the war against terrorism and for a wider world concerned about declining American power and resolve. Bergdahl’s release should be a fire bell in the night for Americans looking forward.

First, swapping Bergdahl for illegal enemy combatants (terrorists, in common parlance) signaled unmistakably to Taliban and al Qaeda that Obama is determined to withdraw from Afghanistan no matter what the cost to the United States or those in Afghanistan fighting to remain free.

Just days earlier, during his West Point graduation speech, Obama had again stressed that, no matter what the facts are on the ground, US forces will leave Afghanistan by the end of 2016. If the terrorists still had even the slightest doubt that they needed only a minimal amount of patience to regain control in Kabul, Obama has done everything in his power to eliminate that.

He is surrendering in Afghanistan.

...Second, it is despicable for an American president to equate a US service member with terrorist criminals such as those at Gitmo. This is the worst form of moral equivalence, the inexcusable mistake of equating two radically different kinds of people or policies.

...Third, Obama tried to disguise his error by characterizing the exchange as consistent with our military tradition of leaving no US service members behind. But Obama’s rhetoric is way off the mark, and the overwhelming majority of our warriors would reject it.

Our entire government has an obligation to protect all American citizens overseas.

...Finally, and most basically, it has long been America’s unwavering, bipartisan policy not to negotiate with terrorists, especially for the exchange of hostages. By trading to release hostages, we are invariably putting a price on the heads of other Americans.

...The Bergdahl deal is now history, but it nonetheless provides important lessons.

Clear-eyed presidents must put America first in national security matters.

All of us as individuals are safer when our country and leaders are strong, and all of us as individuals are more at risk when they are weak. And today we are in ever-increasing danger because of weakness in the White House.
Bolton offers a concise analysis of the ramifications of Obama's Taliban swap.

Obama is surrendering Afghanistan.

The overwhelming majority of American deaths in Afghanistan have occurred with Obama as commander-in-chief. It's his war, and he's content to lose it.

Obama is weak.

That's bad for us and it's bad for the free world.

Robert Bergdahl

Robert Bergdahl, father of deserter Bowe Bergdahl, is a real piece of work.

The Right Scoop has some disturbing information about him.

There’s been a lot of talk this weekend since Bowe Bergdahl was exchanged for 5 high risk terrorists from GITMO who are said to be Taliban leadership. And it starts with this deleted tweet from Bowe Bergdahl’s own father:

Here's video of Robert Bergdahl:

What? "I'm your father, Bowe"?

That is odd.

Obama embracing the parents - not good optics.

Read more about deserter Bowe Bergdahl and his dad, crusader for the release of terrorists, here.

Bowe Bergdahl: Fellow Soldiers Call Him 'Deserter'

I think Obama wanted to exploit the release of Bowe Bergdahl as a means to distract from his inexcusable lack of accountability in his VA scandal and his shocking weakness on the world stage.

I think Obama was hoping his alleged success in brokering a prisoner swap would help members of the military cozy up to their commander-in-chief. It would help him be seen as pro-military and a strong leader.

That hasn't happened.

In fact, Obama comes off worse than ever as a leader.

A problem for Obama: Bowe Bergdahl has a lot of baggage, anti-American baggage, deserter baggage.

His brothers in arms want to set the Bowe Bergdahl record straight.

From Jake Tapper, CNN:

The sense of pride expressed by officials of the Obama administration at the release of Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl is not shared by many of those who served with him -- veterans and soldiers who call him a deserter whose "selfish act" ended up costing the lives of better men.

"I was pissed off then and I am even more so now with everything going on," said former Sergeant Matt Vierkant, a member of Bergdahl's platoon when he went missing on June 30, 2009. "Bowe Bergdahl deserted during a time of war and his fellow Americans lost their lives searching for him."

Vierkant said Bergdahl needs to not only acknowledge his actions publicly but face a military trial for desertion under the Uniform Code of Military Justice.

...According to first-hand accounts from soldiers in his platoon, Bergdahl, while on guard duty, shed his weapons and walked off the observation post with nothing more than a compass, a knife, water, a digital camera, and a diary.

At least six soldiers were killed in subsequent searches for Bergdahl, and many soldiers in his platoon said attacks seemed to increase against the United States in Paktika Provice in the days and weeks following his disappearance.

Many of Bergdahl's fellow troops -- from the seven or so who knew him best in his squad, to the larger group that comprised the 1st Battalion, 501st Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division -- told CNN that they signed nondisclosure agreements agreeing to never share any information about Bergdahl's disappearance and the efforts to recapture him. Some were willing to dismiss that document in hopes that the truth would come out about a soldier who they now fear is being hailed as a hero, while the men who lost their lives looking for him are ignored.

Many are flocking to social media, such as the Facebook page "Bowe Bergdahl is NOT a hero," where they share stories detailing their resentment. A number of comments on his battalion's Facebook page prompted the moderator to ask for more respect to be shown.
This information certainly makes the release of Bergdahl a bit messy.

An American no longer imprisoned by the Taliban is a good thing, but it's hard to hail Bergdahl as a hero.

Soldiers lost their lives searching for a deserter. Those men are the heroes. They DIED because of what Bergdahl did.

What are their names? We haven't seen the parents of those dead soldiers standing with Obama at a news conference or yapping to the media.

Yes, it's very difficult to celebrate the prisoner swap that freed Bergdahl.

Bowe Bergdahl: AWOL

This is a must-read, found on Bouhammer's Blog.
The latest news of 5 GITMO detainee transfers for this kid’s life left me nauseated. From everything I was receiving, Haqqani never expected to get any of the prisoners, let alone 5 of some of the most highly valued targets we had in holding. The US negotiators had fallen for the bluff…the threat of killing the kid. No one ever asked the question of why Haqqani would kill Bergdahl suddenly now after keeping him alive for so many years. A typical political knee jerk reaction to a problem rooted in thousands of years of traditions and ways of doing deals. We got screwed and I suspect Haqqani is laughing his ass off at us from his compound in Pakistan.

The deal that has been made is a slap in the face to every American soldier alive and dead that has served this country with honor. Bowe Bergdahl is a traitor. He willingly left his post and his fellow soldiers to go on a spiritual stroll in Afghanistan, convert to Islam and ultimately join up with the Taliban…and in so doing cost us the lives of great soldiers who were tasked with finding him…just run the body count of how many died searching for him in 2009. Bergdahl wasn’t captured as the Army and media spin-doctors would want you to believe. He betrayed his country and should pay the price of incarceration at the least and death by hanging at the best.

May he burn in Hell.
