While Talarico will likely have to drop out of the Senate race in Texas if that audio from today is true and he was in fact placed inside a mental hospital and lied about it, he will have a major lawsuit. While it isn’t a crime to lie and say you were somewhere else, it is a crime to leak people’s personal health information. Federal law (42 U.S.C. § 1320d-6) makes it a crime to knowingly obtain protected health information from a covered entity without authorization. Doing so under false pretenses—such as falsely claiming to be a relative—can result in up to 5 years imprisonment and a $100,000 fine. State fraud laws may also apply. The hospital itself faces separate HIPAA liability for any improper disclosure. Talarico is a lunatic who belongs nowhere near the US Senate. At the same time, he will say the hospital violated his privacy and broke the law and if he sues he will likely win. Hopefully he drops out of the Senate race.

A Milwaukee Public School music teacher, Kirsta Bowman, won't permit her students to sing "Jingle Bells" or use sleigh bells in her classroom. She says they're racist.

The teacher is drawing national attention after posting a TikTok video explaining why she refuses to let her students sing “Jingle Bells” or use sleigh bells.

In the video, Bowman says “For those of you unaware, the song Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells in general, were put on enslaved people so they could not escape their enslavers. And this is literally a jingle bell cuff that is meant to be worn by a kid.” (she is holding a sleigh bell in the post)

...Many historians and commentators dispute the claim that sleigh bells or the song itself should be considered racist. Critics argue that “Jingle Bells” has long been understood as a holiday song about winter sleigh rides and that claims linking it directly to slavery are either exaggerated or unsupported.

It's irresponsible for MPS to allow Bowman to teach this unsubstantiated tripe to impressionable children.
