Linda Douglass and "Reality Check"

Linda Douglass, the communications director for the White House’s Health Reform Office, claims that Obama's snitch program is perfectly legitimate.

Video.

JANE SKINNER, FOX News: I don't have to tell you what the critics are saying about this website, that potentially the White House could compile an enemies list and that you're attempting to intimidate those who have opposing views. Your thoughts.

LINDA DOUGLASS: Nothing could be farther from the truth. I mean, we get, like any administration, tens of thousands of e-mails from people. No list is being kept. No data is being compiled. None of that information is being compiled.

What happens is, you get an e-mail from somebody who says, 'Gee, my mom is scared. She hears that health insurance reform is going to cut her Medicare benefits.'

What we're doing then is we're putting out a video, putting out information on the website to let people know, no, that is absolutely not true. Nobody's going to touch your Medicare benefits. Nobody's going to do many of the things that the disinformation campaign is trying to tell you about.

We're providing answers to questions for people. We're giving them the truth, and we're telling them how to share that information with their families and friends.

SKINNER: But Linda, wouldn't you acknowledge that it's a valid point to make that this may be a slippery slope, that you're asking Americans to maybe say, 'Hey, you know what? What my fellow American is saying I'm not so sure about. I'm going to turn him in to the White House.'

DOUGLASS: Well, if you think it's a slippery slope that Americans should be able to communicate with their government by sending in e-mails, which thousands of them do every single day...

SKINNER: Well, this is a little different then asking them to send in any e-mail. It's specifically asking them to send in e-mails of something they have seen, heard, read, etc., that somebody else has written.

DOUGLASS: Well, for example, one of our colleagues here has a dad who's a doctor. And his dad sent him an e-mail and said, 'Gee, I'm concerned about something that I've heard about rationing,' which is absolutely not true.

Those are the kinds of e-mails that we're getting where somebody says, 'I have a question. I'm worried about something that I've heard that's very scary out there,' and frequently is not true.

What we do is we look at that. We say, 'Hey, there's a rumor going around out there. Maybe we should address that rumor.'

And we're putting the information in very, very clear, transparent form on the Reality Check website, so that the people can the facts for themselves, and make a decision about what is absolutely true.

Douglass does not address the issue of turning in fellow Americans and the fact that the Obama White House has set up a special e-mail address to receive those communications.

She says that the Obama administration gets thousands and thousands of e-mails like any administration.

Right.

But did President Bush set up a website and encourage people to report "fishy" stuff to his administration to counter disinformation about his policies?

The Left would have gone completely nuts.

Much of the information available at the Reality Check website is propaganda, just more lies.

It's not about transparency. It's about fooling the masses.

It's very simple. If you want the truth, read H.R. 3200.

The truth is out there, but you won't find it on Reality Check, and you won't hear it from Obama and his flunkies.
