The Person of the Year has to be Trump. He's the Obsession of the Year.
I'd like to see the cover and the stories TIME had planned for Hillary Clinton as Person of the Year. You know they exist and were ready to publish.

You could still make the case that HRC should have been person of the year. Trump was the obsession in successive news cycles, but Trump's eventual victories were largely a response to what Clinton represented (coastal elites, governmental sovial engineering, the march of progressivism dismissing traditional values, multi-culturalism, global intervention, corruption, etc.). Trump advanced in spite of himself; he was saved by the single unifying principle of the GOP of Hillary being unacceptable. The whole election cycle was a referendum on her.
