Scott Walker shared some of his plans for 2019 and the future.
Friend,
Tonette and I wish you a Happy New Year.
It has been our honor to serve as Wisconsin's First Family over the past eight years. A new year brings new opportunities for all of us personally – and for our state and country. We are excited about what lies ahead and proud of what we have accomplished over the past years. Thankfully our reforms are like deep roots that will last for a very long time.
In 2018, we saw more people employed in Wisconsin than ever before and record low unemployment. I hope that positive trend continues.
Our schools and healthcare systems are some of the best in the country. We cut taxes by more than $8 billion since we took office. Wisconsin finished each of the last eight fiscal years with a budget surplus. And to make college more affordable, we froze University of Wisconsin tuition for the past six years.
Thank you for being a key part of helping these positive reforms work!
In 2019, Tonette and I will move on to new and exciting opportunities to serve. Our home will remain in Wisconsin but we will broaden our scope with an additional focus on returning power to the people in the states – from a federal government grown out-of-control. That is the best way to Drain the Swamp on a permanent basis.
We will focus on new methods to articulate a conservative message. True freedom and prosperity do not come from the clumsy hand of the government. They come from the dignity that is born of hard work. Socialism has failed around the world – now is not the time to bring it to America.
And we will focus on reforming the tax code and lowering the tax burden on hard-working people. Time and time again the facts show that places that free up capital have greater prosperity and opportunity for their citizens.
To do all of this, we will be involved with a number of excellent organizations. Along the way, I will also be part of a speakers bureau – so be sure to consider requesting me for meetings, conferences, and other events across the nation. It will be nice to be based in Wisconsin but also to be able to see so many of our wonderful friends and supporters around the country.
As for politics, we will help re-elect the President and Vice-President. And we will help plenty of good candidates and causes here in the state in 2019 and 2020. We will see where God leads us in the future.
For now, Tonette and I are happy to be living close to our sons Matt and Alex in the Milwaukee area and not too far from my mother and my brother's family. Having said all of that, we want to wish you and your family a wonderful 2019.
God be with you in the new year,
Scott
