Fauci said that we can start to "relax" social distancing once there are "no new cases, no deaths." Is it just me or is that completely batshit insane? That would keep us in a lockdown for many months or years. And if the virus becomes endemic, forever. How can that be the plan?

I assume Dr. Fauci didn't literally mean NO new cases and NO deaths.
If he did, that is insane.
Dr. Fauci is looking at this all from the medical perspective. He's giving his advice within that bubble. That's his job. It's not his place to set economic policy. Others need to advocate for Americans from the economic perspective.
The risks and the benefits of decisions need to be weighed from various perspectives, acknowledging the many facets of dealing with the scourge China and WHO allowed to cover the globe. The pandemic is not just a health crisis.
It's simple. We cannot shut down our economy for months. We can't.
There can be some balance. There must be some balance. We need to achieve it soon.
