In early 2001, I remember being horrified by the Taliban's destruction of statues of Buddhas. These dated back to the 6th century.

I can't help but be reminded of those attacks on culture when the allegedly "peaceful protesters" destroy statues in our country. We can't ignore this. Something very insidious is at play here.

Why are these thugs being permitted to destroy these statues?
