Marquette University is hostile toward conservatives. It does not offer an environment that fosters free speech.
The latest example: Incoming freshman Samantha Pfefferle, a vocal conservative, has been targeted with vile comments and death threats from Marquette students. They have attempted to have her admission to the university rescinded.
This Leftist Marquette mob refuses to show tolerance to Samantha for expressing views which differ from their stances on issues.
Samantha openly supports President Trump. That, of course, is unacceptable to this mob.
Marquette University Political Science Professor John McAdams writes:
What happens to you if you are a recent high school graduate, just admitted to Marquette, and you go on Tik Toc to boldly affirm that you are a supporter of Donald Trump?This is a disgrace.
The answer is: some leftist Marquette students demand your offer of admission be rescinded.
And how does Marquette respond to such demands? It calls in the student for an Inquisition about her political beliefs, and tells her she may be kicked out of the Freshman class.
In response to the awful way Marquette has treated Samantha, I would withhold my financial support from the university, but I've already stopped being a donor. However, Samantha's case does serve as an affirmation that I should continue to be an ex-donor.
The intolerance displayed by Marquette staff and students is disturbing.
Conservative students have reason to believe they cannot freely express their opinions as members of the Marquette community. They have reason to be concerned for their physical safety for simply making known their conservative views.
What kind of Jesuit university is this?
Marquette exhibits serious issues related to its Catholic identity, abandoning its alleged guiding values.
After waiting for nearly two weeks, and hiring a lawyer to represent her, Samantha finally received notice from Brian Troyer, Dean of Undergraduate Admissions, that her "status as an incoming first-year student at Marquette [had] not changed."
Thankfully, Samantha's admission status was unaltered and the Leftist mob lost, but some things at Marquette do need to change. The atmosphere of stifling both Catholic values and conservative principles must change.
Marquette must end its very troubling practice of censorship and all related abuse.
