Giraffe Born Without Spots

From CBS News:
A zoo in Tennessee says it has welcomed a rare giraffe that does not have any spots. The spotless giraffe was born at Brights Zoo in Limestone, Tennessee, on July 31 and the zoo says experts believe she is the only solid-colored reticulated giraffe on the planet.

...In an email to CBS News, the zoo's director David Bright said the last recorded spotless giraffe was in 1972 in Tokyo. That giraffe, named Toshiko, was born at Ueno Zoo, according to archival photos.

Will this giraffe be shunned or bullied by the spotted? This poor baby may have a rough life.

...In 2020, a family of three rare white giraffes was spotted in Kenya. The all-white giraffes had leucism, which causes the loss of pigmentation, creating white skin.

"[A] family of three rare white giraffes was spotted in Kenya." "Spotted"? No. They were not spotted. Amusing word choice.

Many news outlets are claiming this baby giraffe is the world's only spotless giraffe. Yes, it's rare, but is it the only one? That's quite an assumption to make. It's a big world. Do we really know the whereabouts of every giraffe on the planet?

If we've learned anything the past few years, it's that we shouldn't trust "experts." They don't know what they're talking about.
