Q: Why did Biden claim, twice in one week, that inflation was 9% when he took office — when it was really 1.4%?

KARINE JEAN-PIERRE: What the president was... the point that he was making uh, is that, uh, the factors that cause inflation was [sic] in place when he walked in, into the administration, when he took office. This is idiotic. That's not at all what Biden was trying to say. When Biden comes out and repeatedly says inflation was at 9% when he took office, that in no way is understood by the people to mean he's talking about "factors that cause inflation was [sic] in place when he walked in, into the administration, when he took office." That spin is absurd. Inflation was actually 1.4% when Biden was installed. He sent it soaring.
