Smithsonian director Anthea Hartig is really squirming, speaking somewhat incoherently. She says Mickey Mouse is not racist but then says his origins are tied directly to racist "blackface minstrelsy.".@RepBrandonGill: "Is Mickey Mouse racist?"

Rep. Gill confronted the Director of the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History after we uncovered an exhibit that called Mickey racist for allegedly symbolizing blackface.

ANTHEA HARTIG: It's not for me to determine what's problematic. It's determined to me what's accurate. BRANDON GILL: Is that right?I didn't know the Smithsonian depicted this beloved character this way. Hartig says, "The historical trajectory of the origins of Mickey Mouse tie directly to... It's rooted in minstrelsy." Good grief. The Smithsonian is pushing BS.
