Smithsonian - Mickey Mouse Represents Blackface Minstrelsy

Smithsonian director Anthea Hartig is really squirming, speaking somewhat incoherently. She says Mickey Mouse is not racist but then says his origins are tied directly to racist "blackface minstrelsy."

ANTHEA HARTIG: It's not for me to determine what's problematic. It's determined to me what's accurate.
BRANDON GILL: Is that right?

I didn't know the Smithsonian depicted this beloved character this way. Hartig says, "The historical trajectory of the origins of Mickey Mouse tie directly to... It's rooted in minstrelsy."
Good grief.
The Smithsonian is pushing BS.
