A 23-year-old Milwaukee woman recently charged with impersonating a substitute teacher at a Milwaukee Public Schools high school was arrested in Illinois Friday in connection with the theft of a vehicle from a Brookfield fitness center, police said. ...[Amy] Jones told detectives she entered the school because she was “bored,” hated kids, and “just wanted to ‘f- around.’” She also said she expected to become “famous.” She is charged with one count of impersonating a public employee and five counts of exposing a child to harmful descriptions. If convicted on all counts, she faces up to 21 years in prison. At her initial court appearance on Oct. 6, Jones was released on a $5,000 signature bond with conditions including no contact with the school or certain students. Her defense attorney stated that she manages bipolar disorder and was experiencing an acute manic episode due to a delay in receiving her prescribed medication. She had no prior criminal history and had been located earlier at a West Allis mental health facility. Early Friday morning, Brookfield police responded to a report of a stolen vehicle at Crunch Fitness on Capitol Drive near 124th Street, just before 5 a.m. The suspect used a false name to enter the facility and stole the keys to a blue 2017 Nissan Pathfinder. Police later located the vehicle and Jones in Illinois; she was arrested and remained in custody there as of Friday night reports. Authorities indicated a chase was involved in the apprehension.This is ridiculous. Amy Jones needs help. If an acute manic episode factored into her fake substitute teacher stint, what is her excuse for stealing a car and evading police? Another episode? Jones needs to be secured in a facility that will protect the public while she addresses her mental illness.

A 23-year-old Milwaukee woman is facing six felony charges after prosecutors say she faked her way into a classroom at Rufus King High School as a substitute teacher and made inappropriate comments to students. According to Milwaukee County prosecutors, Amy Jones, a former student at the school, entered the building on Sept. 24, told office staff she was a substitute teacher, and was placed in a classroom for the first three periods.Amy Jones was just placed in a classroom. There was no verification of her identity or business at the school. That's a disturbing lack of security.
Students reported to a school resource officer that Jones was "using profane language, racial slurs, sexually derogative statements and organizing students by race and gender in class." A 16-year-old boy told police, "The teacher was cursing and screaming at the students and that she called a student 'fat boy,' asked a student if she wanted to be a stripper or a hooker," and told two white boys in the class "they were the type of people to start school shootings." Students also told police that Jones asked them if they were gay or virgins. At least one student recorded her behavior and shared the video with police.What class was she "teaching"?
The school principal told police that eight teachers had called in sick that day, and only seven of those positions were filled. She said she believed Jones "got lucky because there happened to be an unfilled position."EIGHT teachers called in sick that day? That's a lot.
