According to an AP report, after the Pope's funeral, "Bush was then flying to Texas, where he was to spend the weekend on his ranch near Crawford. His father was accompanying him on Air Force One. Clinton was taking a backup Air Force plane back to the states."
Do you think NBC will obsess about Clinton flying back to the U.S. on a different plane the way they did about the supposed Jimmy Carter snub?
With the Carter controversy, Matt Lauer even suggested that the current Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice should have offered to give her place up so one of the worst American presidents of the 20th century could be a member of the U.S. delegation. For at least two days, NBC was bent on turning that into a major story.
Regarding the separate flights, I doubt NBC will make a big deal out of it. It probably doesn't indicate any sort of rift between the Bush men and Clinton. I'm guessing Bill had a good reason to not fly back with them. Maybe he simply had some other engagements, perhaps of a personal nature, before he left Rome.
