During Republican Herbert Hoover's 1928 presidential campaign, he promised that his election would guarantee Americans, "A chicken in every pot, a car in every garage."
Now in 2006, the Democrats are making a 21st century promise to the American people. After months, years of Dems' offering no concrete vision for the country, Nancy Pelosi gave a few hints of their eagerly awaited "Unified" agenda.
Of course, this "unified" stuff is a page stolen out of Newt Gingrich's playbook and his successful "Contract with America." It's further proof that Dems have problems with devising a plan that doesn't include engaging in personal attacks and promoting retreat and defeat.
CNSNews.com reports on the speech Nancy Pelosi delivered yesterday to the labor union Communications Workers of America.
Among the many promises and attacks that she spat was the Dems' plan to eliminate the scourge of dial-up.
America lags behind other countries that have universal broadband deployment, Pelosi said; but the Democrats' agenda "guarantees" that every American will have affordable access to broadband within five years.
Do the Dems really think that this one will sway all those Red State voters to come on over to the Blue side?
The five year "guarantee" seems like an eternity. The Free Market will achieve affordable broadband access for every American long before that, without any assistance from the Democratic Party.
Now if the Dems would guarantee FREE satellite TV and radio, I might reconsider my political affiliation.
