Mark Green, Jim Doyle, and Illegal Immigration

Saturday's Milwaukee Journal Sentinel editorial, "Green doesn't understand," attacks Mark Green on illegal immigration.

It is a smokescreen to blur the truth about Jim Doyle's eagerness to burden Wisconsin taxpayers and cater to lawbreakers.

It was - deep sigh - only a matter of time before illegal immigration became an issue in the gubernatorial campaign. Rep. Mark Green is raising it, demonstrating anew that he seriously misunderstands the topic.

What's with the "deep sigh"?

Why shouldn't illegal immigration be an issue in this election?

It's an issue for every state in the country, some more than others.

Just as Wisconsin was once a welfare haven, now Jim Doyle, Kathleen Falk, and other Dems want to make Wisconsin a magnet for ILLEGAL immigrants.

We aren't talking about immigrants. We're talking about ILLEGALS. There's a difference.

Deep sigh...

His congressional votes are prologue here. Illegal immigration cannot be fixed with razor-wire fence or by making felons of illegal immigrants. Green (R-Wis.) supported both of these as part of a larger enforcement-only immigration bill in December. That bill ignored the broader economic forces at work and other realities.

And now Green is proposing to fix at the state level a problem he has failed to apply meaningful remedy to as a congressman.

I am sick of the Doyle campaign and the liberal Journal Sentinel portraying Green as an all-powerful Washington politician capable of single-handedly determining policy.

Are they really that stupid or do they assume that the public is that stupid?

Deep sigh...

He would offer a $300 income tax credit to legal immigrants to learn English. OK, but this fixes a problem that doesn't exist. Immigrants, legal and illegal, already recognize that English is the language of commerce and success.

Then why don't they learn English? The fact is many don't.

As a result, demands are placed on the public and private sectors to cater to non-English speaking people. That costs money. The American people end up paying for their refusal to assimilate.

Since not all immigrants learn English, is the editorial board suggesting that immigrants, legal and illegal, are rejecting the language of commerce and success?

Are they lazy? Is that what the board is saying?

Deep sigh...

Green would prohibit in-state tuition at the University of Wisconsin System for illegal immigrants who have graduated from Wisconsin high schools. Wrong. We should not penalize students who had no say in coming here. It makes no sense to invest in their K-12 educations and then drop interest when they reach college age.

Stop right there.

The question should be: Why are we paying for their K-12 educations?

That makes no sense. ILLEGAL immigrants are ILLEGAL. They aren't citizens.

Why should we grant in-state tuition to ILLEGAL immigrants?

Apparently, Doyle believes in discriminating against out-of-state students.

What makes ILLEGAL immigrants more worthy of in-state tuition than kids from Illinois, or Iowa, or Wyoming or legal residents of any other state?

We should not penalize taxpayers because ILLEGAL immigrants chose to break our laws.

Deep sigh...

...Green would allow local officials, including law enforcement officers, to inquire about immigration status. The bottom line here is that illegal immigrants will then not step forward to report crimes or to testify.

What's wrong with allowing cops to enforce the law?

Do our immigration laws mean anything to Jim Doyle and his lib allies?

As far as ILLEGAL immigrants not stepping forward to report crimes, are we to believe that ILLEGALS are doing that now?

I don't believe that.

Deep sigh...

...It appears suspiciously as if Green is simply scraping the bottom for a wedge issue that might spell the difference in a tight race.

Of course ILLEGAL immigration is a legitimate issue.

The board moans about the need for "real reform."

So why complain when Green raises the immigration issue?

Simple. Doyle is so obviously on the wrong side of the ILLEGAL immigration debate.

That's why the JS is compelled to construct these lame arguments.

DEEP, DEEP SIGH...

It's quite telling that the Journal Sentinel editorial board chose today to sigh about ILLEGAL immigration and write a hit piece on Mark Green instead of addressing Jim Doyle's mounting corrupt connections, like Individual B.

Kicking ass and taking names! :) I love it. But you see, the problem with your arguments, they're too logical! LOL Logic never seems to enter into the liberal spin.

So true.

Introduce logic into the Dems' arguments and they fall apart.
