I don't think the nominees arrived at the Wisconsin Manufacturer of the Year Awards in eco-limos.
I don't think they strutted down a red carpet, flaunting couture clothes and Harry Winston diamonds.
I don't think Al Gore and Leonardo DiCaprio announced that this year the Wisconsin Manufacturer of the Year Awards had gone green.
Nevertheless, it was a big night for Wisconsin manufacturers.
From The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:
Two Milwaukee companies with a growing presence around the world were honored in the annual Manufacturer of the Year awards announced Thursday night.
Astronautics Corp. of America, a privately held firm, won a special award for high-tech research and development, while Brady Corp. won a special award for corporate excellence.
The grand prize winner among the state's largest businesses was Pierce Manufacturing Inc., the Appleton manufacturer of firetrucks that recently expanded its factory to 1 million square feet.
The winners were honored during a banquet Thursday night at the Pfister Hotel. The annual awards are sponsored by the law firm Michael Best & Friedrich, the accounting firm Virchow, Krause & Co. and Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce, the state's largest business lobby.
More on Wisconsin manufacturing's biggest night...
From The Green Bay Press-Gazette:
Nine of 39 nominated companies received Manufacturer of the Year Awards Thursday, though none this year from the immediate Green Bay area.
...Area nominees this year included Wausaukee Composites of Wausaukee, J&R Machine Inc. of Shawano, S&M Tool of Hobart, Thilmany LLC of Kaukauna/De Pere and Kewaunee Fabrication of Kewaunee.
I am a bit disappointed.
I had been pulling for S&M Tool to come out on top.
Still, it's an honor just to be nominated.
Congratulations to all the winners and nominees; and a special shout-out to my favorite S&M Tool.
