Fred Thompson Ready to Announce

After months of teasing, Fred Thompson plans to announce on Tuesday.

Yes, he will.

No, he won't.

I thought Chuck Hagel's goofy, hyped announcement that he was putting off making an announcement about announcing a run for the president was about as lame an announcement could get.

It's possible that Thompson may be topping Hagel.

EXCLUSIVE from WSMV-TV:

Fred Thompson is set to announce that Nashville will be the home of his national campaign headquarters, WSMV is reporting.

A source close to the campaign planning tells WSMV that that Thompson planned to announce his candidacy on the steps of the historic Fall School Building Tuesday, but Thompson campaign officials deny that Tuesday's announcement is an official run for the White House.

..."Everything's in place for tuesday," the source told WSMV. "There are three major events built around his announcement." But Bob Davis, the Tennessee Republican Party Chairman, and Thompson's former Chief of Staff says "There will not be an annoucement Tuesday."

I guess Thompson has decided he needs to test the waters about having his national campaign headquarters in Nashville before he commits.

I wonder if Thompson is utilizing a Hollywood publicist to plant these leaks.

It's hype on a blockbuster scale.

Has Thompson cut a deal with McDonald's for a Happy Meal promotion for his campaign?

Will Thompson surpass Shrek in the history of hype?

Bottom line: Thompson can't announce the location of his national campaign headquarters until he officially gets in the race.

I will be so glad when this is over. It shouldn't be long now.

Soon Thompson will toss his hat in the ring and these stunts will be history.

Then the focus can be on matters that actually matter.

I think we operate under different definitions of "major candidate."
