Milwaukee Tongue Fight

This story of a fight on Milwaukee's far south side is noteworthy for a couple of reasons.

From
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:

A 40-year-old man is in police custody today after a fight in which he allegedly bit off a piece of another man's tongue overnight.

Milwaukee police were called to the fight in the 3900 block of S. Howell Ave. about 12:05 a.m. today.

The victim, 40, was treated at a local hospital. Police had no further details this morning on his condition.

The suspect is likely to face a state felony charge of mayhem, according to police. The charge may be applied against someone who had intent to disable or disfigure another person by cutting or mutilating the tongue, eye, ear, nose, lip, limb or other body part, according to Wisconsin state statutes.

Good grief.

This is really odd.

The two men were fighting. During the fight one guy bites off a piece of the other guy's tongue.

I can't picture how that could happen. Was the one man sticking his tongue out at the other guy?

Just how did tongues get involved?

Very strange.

There are a few bars around the 3900 block of S. Howell. There's a sports bar. Abutting the sports bar, there's also a gay bar on Howard Ave. There's also a public library across the street from the sports bar.

The JS report doesn't say whether the fight occurred on the street or in a building. It's typically short on details.

Where were the men?

Were they intoxicated?

Whatever. It's a weird story of another crime in a previously crime-free area of the city.
