Scott A. Brown: "I didn't mean to do this"

Scott A. Brown, the 17-year-old who shot Tim Belec during a robbery attempt, gets no sympthy from me.

From the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:

A Milwaukee teenager admitted robbing and shooting a medical executive last week in Glendale but told police he didn't intend to fire his gun, according to a criminal complaint filed over the weekend.

"I didn't mean to do this. I never shot a man before," the complaint quotes Scott A. Brown, 17, of the 3500 block of W. Lloyd St., as saying.

Brown says, "I didn't mean to do this."

Really?

Is Brown free will-challenged?

He certainly acted like he meant to shoot Tim Belec.

Brown was charged with one count of attempted first-degree intentional homicide, two counts of first-degree reckless injury while armed, and one count of armed robbery. He is accused in the shooting last Tuesday evening of Tim Belec, 50, outside of Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare, 400 W. River Woods Parkway. Belec is vice president of technology there.

According to the complaint:

Belec told police he had just gotten into his car when someone holding a gun approached and said "Give me everything you have."

Belec told police he gave the gunman his cell phone and $113 from his right front pocket, and he was about to hand over his car keys when the robber shot him twice in the upper right chest. He was still hospitalized Sunday night.

Belec later identified Brown in a photo lineup as the shooter.

Thank God Belec survived the two shots to his upper chest.

Brown pulled the trigger not once, but at least twice.

Keep in mind what Brown said: "I didn't mean to do this."

The complaint says Brown admitted his involvement, saying he was picked up that night by two friends, one of whom asked Brown if he wanted to "lick," or rob, someone. Brown said the friends drove him to Glendale and the driver pointed at Belec.

Stunning, isn't it?

Brown is driving around with two friends.

One of his friends asked if he wanted to "lick" someone. Obviously, Brown agreed.

According to the complaint, Brown didn't pick his prey himself. One of his friends helped him out.

This is what's driving around in Milwaukee and its suburbs -- a group of friends out to "lick" a random individual on the street.

Gee, if only there had been a youth program to keep Brown and his friends out of trouble. Those poor kids have nothing else to do.

Because remember what Brown said: "I didn't mean to do this."

Brown said he walked up to Belec, asked what time it was and then opened the passenger-side door, saying "Give me everything in your pockets." Brown told police that Belec gave him money and a cell phone, but when he demanded Belec's car keys they began to wrestle, "so I shot him," the complaint says.

Belec had given Brown his cell phone and $113. He says that he was about to hand over his car keys when Brown shot him.

When Brown "licks" someone, he really "licks."

The 17-year-old wasn't satisfied with a phone and $113. He had to have Belec's car as well. Apparently, Belec didn't hand over the car keys fast enough to satisfy Brown. As Brown puts it, "so I shot him."

That's quite an admission, because Brown clearly stated, "I didn't mean to do this."

Right.

I buy that.

Brown claims he never shot a man before. Poor baby. He was a virgin. I guess he got caught up in the moment and pulled the trigger, TWICE.

He didn't mean to do it.

After the robbery and shooting, "Brown said he ran to his friends in the waiting car."

Do you think Brown's friends tried to console Brown?

Do you think they tried to get him to relax, not to worry, shootings happen?

Because in spite of what Brown actually did, he didn't mean to do it.

Now he's been arrested and charged with "one count of attempted first-degree intentional homicide, two counts of first-degree reckless injury while armed, and one count of armed robbery."

I don't know if that's fair.

Yes, Brown followed his friend's suggestion to "lick" someone. Yes, he went after Belec, hand-picked by his friend. And yes, during the armed robbery, Brown pulled the trigger at least twice, shooting Belec twice in the chest.

Poor Brown never shot anyone before. He probably didn't understand what it means. He's a victim of his own inexperience.

All those charges.

That's piling on, especially when you consider Brown's professed intention: "I didn't mean to do this."
