Dr. Evil Republicans, Paranoid Democrats

Eugene Robinson's take on the Democrats' paranoia is pretty funny.

He writes:

It would be insane to waste time and energy worrying that somewhere, doubtless in a high-tech subterranean lair, Republican masterminds are cackling over their diabolical plot: The use of reverse psychology to lure unsuspecting Democrats into nominating Barack Obama, an innocent lamb who will be chewed up by the attack machine in the fall. Mwa-ha-ha-ha-ha!

Or maybe Republicans are using double super secret backward reverse psychology to exploit the Democratic Party's congenital paranoia: Let's say nice things about Obama so Democrats think we really want to run against him, and that will make them play into our hands by nominating Hillary Clinton, who so energizes the Republican base that we can actually win an election that we ought to lose. Cue another round of deranged mad-scientist laughter.

Amazingly, those are the kinds of things you hear Democrats saying out loud these days. Let me suggest that the party has enough to think about without dreaming up dilemmas.

Robinson says it would be "insane" for Dems to conjure up thoughts of evil traps put out by Republicans.

Then, he says that Dems are voicing their fears about such traps.

Therefore, Robinson reveals that the Dems are insane.

This part is funny, too:

No matter which candidate Democrats nominate, the Republican game plan is obvious: Go negative.

...If Obama is the nominee, Republicans will attack on the question of experience and claim he's not ready to be commander in chief. If it's Clinton, the obvious ploy will be to remind voters of the tawdrier episodes of the Bill Clinton presidency and portray Hillary Clinton as a divisive figure. Subliminally, Republicans can try to undermine Obama with race or Clinton with gender. In either case, things could get ugly.

That's priceless!

Robinson talks about the Republicans going negative on the Dem nominee.

His predictions for the Republicans' mode of attack for Obama and Clinton are hilarious.

Doesn't he realize that the attacks have already been used -- Dem on Dem?

What he describes as a way for Republicans to attack Obama has been used by Hillary to attack Obama.

What he describes as a way for Republicans to attack Hillary has been used by Obama to attack Hillary.

Where has Robinson been?

His suggestion of Republicans using subliminal race and gender messages to undermine Obama and Hillary also are methods that have been used by the Dems on each other, only they haven't exactly been very subliminal in their execution. No, Dems have definitely put race and gender front and center this primary season.

His prediction that "things could get ugly" is especially amusing.

Things are already ugly among the Democrats. No Republicans required.

Another amusing thing--

Robinson makes fun of the Democrats' paranoia, yet he's the one warning of the Republicans using those diabolical subliminal tactics to undermine the Democrat candidate.

At least Robinson didn't warn the Dems to beware of Republicans using "frickin' sharks with frickin' laser beams attached to their frickin' heads."
