Levi Scott is a Barack Obama supporter. That's not unusual.
He's also been charged with "Forgery-membership card." That is unusual.
From the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:
Levi Scott, whose long history of legal problems includes a police-impersonation conviction in 1998, has added one rarely invoked law - "forgery-membership card" - after police said he tried to crash a Barack Obama event with a bogus media credential.
His crime, according to a complaint filed Monday, was faking a WITI-TV (Channel 6) station ID to get into a $125-a-head Obama event on Saturday. Security at the Midwest Airlines Convention Center fund-raiser spotted Scott sporting an ID that didn't look quite right, and police arrested him.
According to the criminal complaint, Scott, 55, of Milwaukee, admitted the credential was homemade - but he didn't just want a free pass into the event. Instead, he told police, he had "a vision for the Obama campaign" to share, including "ideas for Obama buttons and T-shirts."
The complaint said Scott's attempt to get face time with Obama's people was his second in a week after a failed outing to a Michelle Obama appearance at Ma Fischer's. He faces nine months in jail if convicted.
The standard court order, abbreviated for confidentiality to give the victim's first name and last initial only, failed miserably at keeping the identity secret.
The record (with the misspelling)read:
"Defendant to have no contact with Barack O., MichaelleO. or any member of their family."
Obviously, Scott desperately wanted to help out Obama's campaign by sharing his vision.
Now he may get nine months in jail.
Even hope has its limits.
