Savior Obama and his Flock

The Flock: 18,000 people at Obama rally in Seattle, Friday Feb. 8, 2008

Barack Obama is coming to Wisconsin!

Hallelujah!

While organizers geared up for a massive turnout at Tuesday's appearance in Madison by Democratic presidential candidate U.S. Sen. Barack Obama, supporters of her rival, U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton, today stepped up their call for the two to face each other in a Milwaukee debate.

Obama spokesman Dan Leistikow said the response to Obama's appearance has been "tremendous. We sent out an initial e-mail to about 9,000 people in the Madison area. Within 24 hours, 50 percent of those people not only read the e-mail, but RSVPed on the Web site. That is unprecedented."

Leistikow said the event "will be more than just a rally" and that attendees are being asked to bring their cell phones so they can find new ways "to take action and volunteer via text messaging."

The response to Obama's appearance has been unprecedented.

While the Obama camp readies for the rally in Madison, Hillary supporters are struggling to get Obama to debate Hillary in Milwaukee.

Why talk issues when Obama can draw crowds and make them swoon?

Who needs substance? Why talk specifics?

Isn't it enough to say "change"?

Obama's supporters think so.

"What began as a whisper in Springfield has swelled to a chorus of millions calling for change. It’s a chorus that cannot be ignored. A chorus that cannot be deterred. This time can be different because this campaign for the presidency is different," Obama said in his Chicago Super Tuesday speech.

YES WE CAN! YES WE CAN! YES WE CAN!

Can what?

Get fired up!

For what?

For what Obama says we can get fired up to do!

In his column today, "Hate Springs Eternal,"
Paul Krugman has the audacity to say, "I’m not the first to point out that the Obama campaign seems dangerously close to becoming a cult of personality."

Jason Linkins at the Huffington Post takes Krugman to task for having the audacity to criticize Obama, the savior.

Cult? What cult?

This just in...!!!

Obama in Waukesha?

It's just a rumor, but isn't it thrilling?

Let's be honest. Much of what's going on right now is truly a cult of personality. Ask Obama's supporters what he stands for and many are content with knowing that he's about change.

Clearly, some of Obama's support is cult-like.

Barack Obama is frighteningly untested. Last night on
60 Minutes, Steve Kroft asked Obama about the criticism that he has never run anything other than the Harvard Law Review.

Obama replied, "Well, I've run my Senate office. And I've run this campaign."

That's awfully weak.

Regarding critics claiming Obama lacks experience, he said that you don't need to be around a long time to prove you're capable. He compared himself to Google. Yes, Google.

Obama said, "One of the interesting things about this experience argument is that it's often posed as just a function of longevity. You know, 'I've been here longer.' Well, you know there are a lot of companies that have been around longer than Google…but Google's performing."

I know Google and Obama is no Google.

What scares me most about Obama is that he actually seems to believe his own myth.

Considering much of Obama's crowed about experience was in getting out the vote in Illinois, you'd hope he'd be pretty good at it by now.

But now that we've got the car loaded and tanked up, would be nice to know where we're going.

There's no question that Obama is a powerful speaker. He's extremely charismatic.

Eventually, he'll have to start talking substance. If he wins the nomination, I'm sure John McCain & Co. will demand that.
