Boomgaard, It's Over

It appears that the long local nightmare is over.

The renaming of the 27th Street Corridor as the "Boomgaard District" isn't going to happen.

From OakCreekNOW:

The South 27th Street Steering Committee will likely have to come up with a new name for the 27th Street Corridor after its first choice - the "Boomgaard District" - was ridiculed by bloggers, radio talk show hosts, columnists and many residents.

The Oak Creek Common Council Tuesday, June 17, unanimously approved a motion referring the name back to the committee, with a recommendation to consider selecting a new name.

"We voted on the name, and it was not a unanimous vote; so to undo that, we needed formal action, which we took," Oak Creek City Administrator Patrick DeGrave explained.

According to Oak Creek and Franklin officials, though, the formal action just reaffirms a consensus already reached last month by both communities.

"I had referred the item back to committee about a month ago, for reconsideration and more public input," said Franklin Mayor Thomas Taylor, adding that no formal action will need to be taken by the Franklin Common Council, because the governing body never voted on the matter in the first place.

Ted Grintjes, chairman of the South 27th Street Steering Committee, said the committee has heard the message loud and clear: the name needs to change.

Of course, the name has to be tossed out.

Boomgaard?

That's awful.

...Franklin and Oak Creek have so far paid the Zizzo Group Advertising and Public Relations about $9,800 for naming and logo development for the corridor, with about $11,050 budgeted dollars remaining for those tasks.

The Zizzo Group really should offer to refund some of the money it took from Franklin and Oak Creek for naming and logo development.

Coming up with a name like Boomgaard for the 27th Street Corridor reflects terribly on the Zizzo Group's judgment. That's not good, especially given how fresh the
Marquette Gold fiasco still is.

As Ted Grintjes, chairman of the South 27th Street Steering Committee, now understands, it's so important to get feedback from the public before settling on a name.

I don't see how the Zizzo Group can afford anymore of these high profile crash and burns.

It's not that people didn't care for the Zizzo Group's Boomgaard and Gold ideas. They couldn't stand them.

At least in both cases, the opinions of the public were eventually heeded.

Who, or what, is Boomgaard?

It's another bad idea from the Zizzo Group.

You can read about it here.

Oh. Well, why don't they just call it Orchard? How many people Dutch in that area??? :/

I'm not sure how many Dutch call the 27th St. Corridor home.

I know there aren't orchards there.

Boomgaard has Zizzo written all over it.

Wonder if that's some distant relative or some such. Why don't they just call it 27th St.? :)

Right. The street already has a name.

Were people crying out for a change?

I don't see anything wrong with calling it 27th St.

What a complete waste of time and money by creating this totally needless controversy!

So, just who, exactly, is footing the bill for all this nonsense? I'm pretty sure it isn't the Zizzo bunch. :/

Maybe it's the Dutch -- an international conspiracy! :)
