Obama in Kaukauna

Barack Obama was in Wisconsin yesterday, holding a Town Hall meeting in Kaukauna.

Hey! He's wearing his flag pin for the occasion! I'm impressed that he hasn't lost it. Very impressed.

Kaukauna -- Democrat Barack Obama brought a fierce populist message to the state on Thursday, hoping his push for middle-class tax cuts proves popular here and in other battlegrounds.

The message was delivered before a crowd of about 2,500 in a high school gym in a small town in the Fox Valley, a key area in a critical state in the presidential battle.

The response: Adoration.

Adoration?

Good grief.

Speaking at a town hall meeting at Kaukauna High School, Obama had the crowd cheering his answers and even making suggestions for an Obama administration.

From one man: make President Bush an ambassador . . . to Iraq. Obama offered a sly grin before a joking reply.

“Honestly,” he said. “We need somebody really good in that job.”

Isn't Barack funny?

What a guy!

The tone was easy and at times light. But that masked the importance of the issue at the core of Obama’s message — the economy — and the region in which he delivered it.

Obama’s visit to Kaukauna was part of a two-week swing through battleground states, with each stop having an economic theme — an issue that now tops the list of worries for voters nationwide.

It was a makeup visit, after a planned stop two days before the Feb. 19 primary was scuttled by a snowstorm. And it was Obama’s first to the state since becoming the Democratic nominee-to-be.

A snowstorm kept Obama from coming to Wisconsin in February.

This time his visit wasn't canceled, but due to the incredible severe weather and heavy, flooding rains, Obama certainly didn't get the statewide media attention he probably hoped to receive.

While the 2,500 people at the Obama event were busy "adoring" Obama, many Wisconsinites were focusing on a day of violent and destructive weather.

Obama in Wisconsin was not the lead story in the state. He took a back seat to the storms in much of the state.

Who cares about a presidential candidate's visit when you're worried about floods and tornadoes?

Not me.

Chris, are you an Obama supporter? If so, you reflect poorly on him.

Step back and think: What Would Obama Do?

I think he'd say he cares about my concerns.
