Wisconsin Floods, Doyle Golfs

According to WISN's Mark Belling, Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle played 18 holes of golf yesterday.

So what?

Well, is it appropriate for Doyle to be on the golf course while the people of his state are in crisis?

While floods continued to ravage the state, and Lake Delton virtually disappeared, Doyle was at a Democrat political event playing golf.

Wisconsin is in the midst of a massive natural disaster, and if the forecasts are correct, it is likely to get worse.

Belling said that Doyle's staff members were told to give him phone numbers of local officials in flooded areas so he could call them while he golfed. Belling speculates that this would provide cover for Doyle, possibly done to make it appear that he was staying on top of the situation while he played.

Furthermore, the press failed to report that Doyle spent a good portion of the day yesterday golfing. Complete silence.

How many times has President Bush been criticized for golfing when he should have been (fill in the blank)?

Doyle has been given a pass on this.

Did the sand traps on the course make Doyle think of sandbags and people struggling to save their homes and businesses?

Instead of golfing Doyle should have been filling sandbags.

_______________

Shortly after Belling broke this story, Doyle's spokesman Lee Sensenbrenner appeared live on the air on Belling's show. He insisted on going on the air, saying he wouldn't answer more of Belling's questions unless he could go on the air and speak directly to the audience.

Sensenbrenner dodged some of Belling's questions. He didn't want to call the golf event a fundraiser, but that's what it was. Sensenbrenner noted how hard Doyle has been working, visiting flooded areas and staying in contact with FEMA.

The golf event yesterday was in Madison. It was for Doyle's own campaign. It was a benefit to fill his own coffers!

Sensenbrenner refused to say how long Doyle was at the event. Belling asked if the event had a social hour after the 18 holes. Sensenbrenner wouldn't answer.

Sensenbrenner said Doyle's heart is with the suffering people of Wisconsin.

I think it's terribly inappropriate for Doyle to hold a fundraiser for himself in the middle of this flooding crisis, as dams are about to burst.

INAPPROPRIATE.

In my opinion, Doyle should NOT have golfed yesterday. He could have made a quick appearance at the event, but he should NOT have played.

I wonder if Doyle had a good day on the course.

Was he thinking about the people with sewage in their basements?

Was he thinking about sink holes or sinking putts?

He certainly was thinking about money.
