On MSNBC's Morning Joe today, Dan Rather was carrying water for Jesse Jackson. In the process, he referred to Barack Obama as Osama bin Laden.
From NewsBusters:
RATHER: ...with Jesse Jackson, and I recognize this is not popular to say with a lot of people, but I have a respect for Jesse Jackson; that he was an important figure in paving the way for an Osama bin Laden to appear.
What's hilarious is that the others on the panel didn't say anything.
Did they think that Rather actually meant to say Osama bin Laden?
Maybe Rather wasn't awake yet. He seemed a bit groggy. It's not that difficult to mistakenly say "Osama" instead of "Obama." However, saying "Osama bin Laden" is really a pretty bad gaffe, and certainly worthy of correction.
Rather went on to say:
But this is one of those things that I think by the time we get to the conventions, nobody is going to remember it. It doesn't count for very much.
Of course Rather thinks that no one will remember what Jackson said. He couldn't even recall that he used the name of the most reviled terrorist in the world to refer to the presumptive Dem nominee for president.
If an anchor on FOX News made a similar mistake, he'd be crucified by the Left.
Michelle Obama would immediately get out in front of a camera and start yelling about the politics of fear again.
Obama would react with his canned controlled yet outraged condemnation response.
But Rather's blunder is ignored.
Jesse Jackson paved the way for Osama bin Laden.
OK, Dan. If you say so.
