George Clooney and Barack Obama

"[Obama] walks into a room and you want to follow him somewhere, anywhere."

--GEORGE CLOONEY, December 2006

George Clooney has been under Barack Obama's spell for a long time.

What's strange is Obama follower Clooney now is reported to be advising the presidential wannabe on how to lead.

From the Daily Mail's Mail Online:

George Clooney once famously declared he could never run for public office because he’d ‘slept with too many women, done too many drugs and been to too many parties’.

But now the Hollywood heart-throb has entered the political arena at
the highest level – by becoming an unofficial adviser to US Presidential front-runner Barack Obama.

Oscar-winner Clooney, 47, is said to be helping the Democratic candidate to polish his image at home and abroad.

But he is also sharing with Obama his strong opinions on Iraq and the Middle East.

Sources say the actor has tried to hide the pair’s friendship for fear his Left-wing views and playboy image would hurt the Presidential hopeful’s bid for the White House.

But Democratic Party insiders have revealed that Clooney and Obama regularly send texts and emails to each other and speak by phone at least twice a week.

One said last night: ‘They are extremely close. A number of members of the Hollywood community, including Brad Pitt, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, offered to help raise funds for Barack but it was with George that he struck up this amazing affinity.

‘George has been giving him advice on things such as presentation, public speaking and body language and he also emails him constantly about policy, especially the Middle East.

‘George is pushing him to be more “balanced” on issues such as US relations with Israel.

'George is pro-Palestinian. And he is also urging Barack to withdraw unconditionally from Iraq if he wins.

...One of Clooney’s trusted acquaintances said: ‘George is a master at crafting his own image and he is helping Obama to hone his image both domestically and abroad.

'He told me he feels Obama is a once-in-a-lifetime leader. He is doing everything he can behind the scenes to bolster support in Hollywood, not just with other celebrities but with the money men at the studios.’

The acquaintance added: ‘He has tried to keep the true extent of their involvement out of the Press because he is frightened of alienating voters.’

Clooney himself has admitted in an interview: ‘I’ve had the conversation with him saying, “Look, I’ll give you whatever support you need, including staying completely away from you.”’

The star has never tried to hide his liberal views and last week announced he is making a £15million film about the lawyer who defended Osama Bin Laden’s former driver, Salim Hamdan, on terror charges.

Gee, I wonder why news of a close relationship with Clooney might turn voters away from Obama.

Do you think it might be because Americans don't like the idea of a Hollywood celebrity with no political experience or education advising Obama on foreign policy?

Do you think it might have something to do with the fact that Clooney is such a radical that he's bringing the story of Salim Hamdan, Osama bin Laden's driver, to the screen?

We know that Clooney is firmly in Obama's far Leftist corner. He's holding a $10,000 a plate fundraiser for Obama in Switzerland. SWITZERLAND!

I guess that makes sense for a "citizen of the world" like Obama.

(CNN) -- Academy award winning actor George Clooney is set to host a fundraiser for Barack Obama in Switzerland next month.

The event, taking place on the evening of September 2 in Geneva, Switzerland will be split into two parts: a reception and a dinner. According to Obama’s National Finance Committee, tickets for the reception where Clooney will speak are going for $1,000, followed by a dinner at the home of NFC member Charles Adams for $10,000 a plate. Space for the dinner is limited to 75 guests.

That will be an elite and intimate group, 75 snobs most likely talking down America.

One can only imagine the sort of things that will be said at the dinner and reception. If Obama shamelessly kowtowed to the millionaire Leftists at his San Francisco fundraiser, when he pontificated on the bitterness of Bible-thumping, gun-owning, bigoted, blue-collar Americans, think of what he'll give up to the guests at Clooney's Switzerland soirée.

The thought of radical Leftist Clooney being a member of Obama's inner circle is troubling to those of us concerned about the country swinging dramatically to the Left.

It's not surprising that the Obama camp is denying Clooney's influence.

From FOX News:

Reports that actor George Clooney is in close contact with Barack Obama — advising him on both oratorical and policy matters – are false, a spokesman for the the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee told FOXNews.com on Tuesday.

Obama spokesman Ben LaBolt called a story on Clooney and Obama that appeared in the (London) Daily Mail “an inaccurate report” and noted that Clooney’s longtime rep has said similar reports are old and untrue.

What is "inaccurate" about the Daily Mail report?

Does Clooney talk with Obama twice a day instead of twice a week?

Kinda funny to hear a Republican talk about how Obama is an elitist.

Remember how Bush would go to private big money fundraisers and joke about how some people call them the rich and powerful, but Bush just refers to them as his base?

All politicians have to raise lots of money to compete in our corrupt, money based political system.

The difference is that Bush raised money from big money donors and governed for the benefit of the wealthy while ignoring average Americans.

Obama is raising lots of money from all types of donors while promising to govern with respect to all Americans.

Bush was once asked what his biggest accomplishments were in office and he said tort reform and tax cuts that primarily benefited the richest 2% of Americans. That is the most elitest and least motivational answer I ever heard.

I will be voting for an elite man (Obama) who comes from average beginnings and wants to govern with respect for all Americans.

The last two elections, Americans voted for a seemingly folksy and imperfect man (Bush) who came from a wealthy and well connected family who governed for the sake of the wealthy families and corporations while average Americans lost their jobs, were misled into a war of choice, and saw the price of food and fuel go through the roof.

And now Republicans are calling other people elitest?

Y'all must be crazy...

Are you calling me a Republican?

I'm not a registered Republican. I don't belong to a political party.

Anyway, you're arguing that because Bush held big money fundraisers it's wrong to talk about Obama the elitist.

You have a logical lapse there.

I'm not too comfortable with the thought of George Clooney giving Obama foreign policy advice.

George Clooney!
