Mario A. White a Repeat Offender

Mario A. White was a known risk to public safety.

Add him to Wisconsin's list of repeat offenders still out on the road.

"Brat Days driver had many priors"

A 21-year-old man charged today in connection with a police chase and subsequent crash that injured four parade-goers at Brat Days in Sheboygan last weekend told authorities he was on his way out of state so he could avoid going to jail on a previous drunken driving conviction.

Mario A. White faces one count of attempting to flee or elude a traffic officer, six counts of first-degree reckless endangerment/repeater, four counts of operating while intoxicated/causing injury, one count of operating a motor vehicle after revocation/third offense, and operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated/third offense.

...After being arrested, White told authorities that he had been drinking beer the previous evening and admitted to being drunk, according to the complaint. He said he was on his way out of state because he was to begin a drunken driving sentence in Manitowoc and didn't want to go to jail. The complaint notes that according to state driving records, White's operating privileges were revoked on Aug. 2 and showed previous operating after revocation convictions on March 27, 2007, July 8, 2007 and Sept. 17, 2007.

This needs to be addressed. An effort must be made to shield people from threats like White.

Wisconsin lawmakers need to enact legislation that protects the public from these repeat offenders.

They can save lives.
