Brewers Lose

Chicago -- Shock therapy did not cure the ailing Milwaukee Brewers.

But at least their vital signs are back.

Showing more fight than in recent memory Tuesday night, the Brewers lost their first game under interim manager Dale Sveum, 5-4, to the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field.

There’s no such thing at this stage of the season as moral victories but the Brewers at least felt better about the way they competed against the best team in the National League.

“My first time out there was a heck of a game,” said Sveum, managing his first game in place of fired Ned Yost. “We showed some life. The guys battled their hearts out.”

“No doubt about it. I saw a lot of good things,” added Sveum, who the day before said the managerial move was made to shock the players back to life.

With all due respect to Sveum, the only good thing at this stage in the season under these circumstances is a win.

While showing some life is good, it isn't enough. The Brewers have to win now.

If the team doesn't make it into the playoffs, the season will be a failure.

End of story.

GO Cubs GO!

Sorry. I couldn't help myself.

GO Cubs GO!

Oops. I did it again.

After what Milwaukee did for the Cubs, allowing them to play in Miller Park and pitch a no-hitter no less, you'd think they could return the favor and help out the Brewers.

(Disclaimer: I'm joking. I'm not suggesting that the Cubs throw any games.)

(Disclaimer disclaimer: I could live with the Cubs not trying so hard to win. Show-offs!)

Last night didn't work out so well.

Yes, the Cubs lost the game.

Although we won last night's battle, losing Ben Sheets might mean the Brewers have lost the war.
