Steve Blackmon and Grim Reaper Kennels

Will animal rights activists unleash their wrath on Steve Blackmon and protest the scourge of dog fighting?

I think they should.

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- A Milwaukee man faces charges of dog fighting after police investigating illegal drug dealing discovered the operation.

Animal control officers took six pit bulls and five puppies from the residence. All 11 have been euthanized.

Police reported that the basement kennel had a fighting ring with blood in it and a tread mill for dogs. Some dogs had marks on them consistent with fighting.

Charges filed against 40-year-old Steve Blackmon include instigating animal fights and training animals for fights.

But he denied the charges, telling WTMJ-TV the dogs were used for pulling contests, not fighting.

...He's also charged with maintaining a drug trafficking place and possessing cocaine with intent to deliver.

TMJ4 reports:
Animal Control rescued six adult pit bulls and five puppies. According to the criminal complaint, “at least two of the dogs had heavy scaring and recent injury to the head and front leg areas."

“A lot of times they are brutalized,” [director at Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Melanie] Sobel said.

Police found the suspected fight ring when they busted Blackmon for allegedly running a drug house.

He also faces drug charges.

Sometimes the dogs will be put up for adoption but unfortunately in this situation all 11 dogs and puppies were euthanized.

This is sick.

These poor dogs were beaten and brutalized.

I don't understand the cruelty.

I agree, this type of behavior is disgusting and needs to be discouraged at all costs. I hope the judge gives this guy a the harshest sentence possible so as to send a message that animal cruelty will not be tolerated.

It's heartbreaking when animals are abused like this.

I'm glad it worked out that police busted Blackmon on a drug charge so that they were able to discover the dog fighting operation.

Has anyone heard when the sentencing is taking place?? I'm trying to organize folks to demonstrate there to show that the community expects these people to be severely punished!

I haven't seen anything.

The Milwaukee media drop the ball so often that I wouldn't be surprised if the first we hear about Blackmon again is after the case is resolved and sentencing is a done deal.

I agree, this is horrible and those poor dogs didn't even have a choice, but this man being in jail has caused much pain and suffering of family members, I would know because I know parts of his family and they do not deserve to suffer like this.

Why would they euthanize the puppies? They could've been saved.
