DEMOCRAT Jim Moran, congressman representing Virginia's 8th District, echoes the sentiments of French anarchist Pierre-Joseph Proudhon: PROPERTY IS THEFT.
Are Moran and Barack Obama socialists?
If it looks like a socialist, swims like a socialist and quacks like a socialist, then it probably is a socialist.

JIM MORAN: Now, in the last 7 years, we have had the highest corporate profit ever in American history, hightest corporate profit. We've had the highest productivity. The American worker has produced more per person then at any time. But it hasn't been shared. And that's the problem, because we have been guided by a Republican administration who believes in the simplistic notion that people who have wealth are entitled to keep it, and they have an antipathy towards means of redistributing wealth. And they may be able to sustain that for a while, but it doesn't work in the long run.
Oh, my God.
"[The] simplistic notion that people who have wealth are entitled to keep it."
Oh, my God.
Here's Obama talking about that "simplistic notion" on MTV:
SWAY: Our next question is from Matt from Iowa: "If your desire is to spread the wealth around, what incentive is there for me to try to work hard? If I am only going to get more taken away from me, the more money I make, why wouldn't I just slide into a life of relaxation and let rich people take care of me? And a lot of people are asking similar questions, and I wanted you to specify. What does this mean exactly?"
OBAMA: What is amazing to me is this whole notion that somehow everybody is just looking out for themselves. I mean, the fact is, we just talked about student loans. When young people who have the drive and the skill to go to college can't afford to go to college, how do you think we pay for scholarships or loan programs? That money doesn't grow on trees. It's got to come from somewhere, and the attitude that I have is that, if we want to grow our economy, the way it grows is from the bottom up. You don't just give tax breaks to millionaires and billionaires. What you do is make sure the tax code is fair. I want to give a tax cut to 95 percent of working Americans, but in order to pay for that, I'm going to take the tax rates back to what they were in the 1990s for people who are making more than a quarter of a million dollars a year. Now for people who are making more than a quarter of a million dollars a year, if they are paying 2 or 3 percent higher in taxes, the notion that they're somehow going to stop working, or that this young man is going to not want to be successful, that just doesn't make any sense. Back in the 1990s, we created more millionaires, more billionaires, because the economy was growing, everything was strong, at every income bracket, people were doing well. So this idea, that somehow everybody is just on their own and shouldn't be concerned about other people who are coming up behind them, that's the kind of attitude that I want to end when I am president.

Ughh...it's so absurd for him to say that he's just looking to make the tax rates "fair." Fairness is completely subjective.
And Matt from Iowa, you better watch your back. Remember what happened the last time someone asked Obama an honest question?
I guess Obama, the messiah, has the wisdom to determine the moral order.
His idea of fairness is the absolute truth.
Don't question the supreme Obama.
Mary, I just figured it out. You (and others) are misunderstanding what is meant by "wealth". This "wealth" refers to the wealth that the upper class has, now what your everyday Americans, the 95 % in the lower and middle class income brackets. Not to belittle what you might have Mary... but don't confuse it with what is meant by "wealth. Think of that and consider again what Obama is saying.
Too bad you already voted, huh?
I'm not into to class warfare.
I don't believe the "5% of the wealthy" in this country should have their earnings confiscated by the government and given to me or anyone else.
I disagree with Obama and Moran. I'm not a socialist.
I want to control my wealth, such that it is. I don't want the government to determine how my earnings should be doled out.
This country is about opportunity and freedom, not socialist oppression.
Guess what Mary? Both parties decide how you income is doled out to taxed. We have progressive tax in this country, not a flat fee or even flat rate for everyone.
And stop this nonsense abpout have earnings "confiscated". All that is being prposed is that those that can spare more , do so. And again, this probably doesn't even apply to YOU!
No kidding. We don't have a flat tax.
And of course, taxes are needed to fund the military and other services. That's different than Moran and Obama's vision of "spreading the wealth around."
What's the criteria for "enough to spare"?
Obama at first said it was $250,000. Then his surrogate Richardson took that down to $120,000.
It's wrong to consider the government entitled to CONFISCATE the private earnings of the wealthy.
For example, I don't want the government to take away Bill Gates' money. It's his. I think he should decide how he wants to spread it around.
Viva la Revolucion!
Once again (sigh), Mary.... the government is not going to take away all of Bill Gates money. They are going to take some of it and use it for the common good. That's what taxes do. He will still have way more than enough. More than he can spend and lots to dole out to his charities of choice.
Sigh. Anonymous 1 does not seem to get it. What is the "common good", and what gives you or the government the right to determine how best to use it for that "common good"? The wealthy already contribute the vast portion of the taxes paid by society, and now Obama is asking the wealthy to contribute even more. This is happening as 40% of Americans pay zero taxes (and will in fact get tax ctedits) and another 55% get their taxes reduced.
You sound reasonably intelligent. Let's say you did well in school...got good grades because you were smart and also studied hard. Let's say your friend doesn't...he's lazy, like to party, has a great time with other friends. Or maybe he's just not as smart as you. Either way, let's say to be "fair", the school decides to redistribute grades so that your A becomes a B and his D becomes a C. Hmmmm. You are still doing better. But that's not fair you say. You earned your grade...you worked hard, you're smart. Well tough luck. The government has decided it's just not fair.
