The Obama Questionnaire

Do you want a job in Barack Obama's administration?

You'll have to completely relinquish your privacy. No secrets.

Take the Obama Administration's Questionnaire

For some, it will be the job of a lifetime. But, tonight we're learning, anyone interested in working for the next President better be ready to reveal a lifetime of personal information.

The New York Times first uncovered the 63 topic questionnaire the next administration asks cabinet post candidates to complete. It's a background check that is more involved than any Presidential Administration before. The goal is to prevent political scandals that have plagued the politics of the past, but some of the questions involve topics you might only consider talking about with your clergy.

Number 13 asks about e-mail and text messages you've sent that could come back to embarrass you, your family or the President-elect.

Number 45 asks about police or government investigations, not just focused on you, but also your spouse and any child over 21 years old. In fact, the word spouse appears 34 times during the 63 questions.

There are also questions about friends, guns, taxes, property and an open invitation to admit anything else that could stir up a controversy.

Here is the full text of the questionnaire.

Some of these are priceless.

(10) Writings: Please list and, if readily available, provide a copy of each book, article, column or publication (including but not limited to any post or comments on blogs or other websites) you have authored, individually or with others. Please list all aliases or "handles" you have used to communicate on the Internet.

(14) Diaries: If you keep or have ever kept a diary that contains anything that could suggest a conflict of interest or be a possible source of embarrassment to you, your family, or the President-Elect if it were made public, please describe.

(16) Please list each membership, including any board memberships, you or your spouse have or have had with any political, civic, social, charitable, educational, professional, fraternal, benevolent or religious organization, private club or other membership organization (including any type of tax-exempt organization) during the past ten years. Please include dates of membership and any positions you may have had with the organization.

(57) If applicable, please list the names, addresses and phone number of cohabitants within the last ten years. A cohabitant is a person with whom you share bonds of affection, obligation, or other commitment, as opposed to a person with whom you live for reasons of convenience (a roommate).

(58) Please provide the URL address of any websites that feature you in either a personal or professional capacity (e.g. Facebook, My Space, etc.)

(61) Have you had any association with any person, group or business venture that could be used - even unfairly - to impugn or attack your character and qualifications for government service?

(63) Please provide any other information, including information about other members of your family, that could suggest a conflict of interest or be a possible source of embarrassment to you, your family, or the President-Elect.

In other words, compile a detailed life history for yourself and provide the life history of everyone with whom you've had a relationship. Details! No stone left unturned. Spill the details on every embarrassing moment in your life.

All the stuff that was off limits and was supposedly irrelevant about Obama during the campaign is exactly what the Obama administration wants to know.

You can't make this up. Amazing.

By the time you'd finish this questionnaire, Obama will be a former president.

I want Obama to complete the questionnaire. Americans have a lot to learn about him and his associates.

During the campaign, Obama wasn't asked so he didn't tell.

Now, I'm asking.

It's tough to get into the ruling class.

The left always claims that they are all about personal freedom; they even want freedom for the terrorists in Gitmo. And they claim that they are not judgemental.

But, when it comes to actually walking the walk, they work their rear ends off to curb our freedoms and are incredibly judgemental. In fact, if you don't fall into lockstep with their views, you are to be attacked and defeated.

This "test" is only one example of what a bunch of hypocrites these people are.

My thoughts exactly!

Most of these questions are standard for all administrations, actually fairly similar to the one that Bush did in 2000 and 2004, and other offices.

Thought-provoking post and blog. Relevant to your comments is the fact that many experts have argued that Obama is a member of Generation Jones…the heretofore lost generation between the Boomers and Xers, now 42-54 years old.

I've noticed that there’s been quite a bit of buzz about GenJones in the context of this election; I saw several discussions on national TV about Obama being a Joneser, as well as about GenJones voters being a key swing vote.

You may find this link interesting, my friends and I have been linking people to this page because we think it matters: it has a bunch of print excerpts and videos of big time publications (e.g. The New York Times, Newsweek, etc.) and pundits (e.g. David Brooks, Clarence Page, etc.) all talking about Obama’s identity as part of Generation Jones: http://www.generationjones.com/2008election.html

It's not that such questions aren't asked by other administrations.

The issue is the glaring hypocrisy in Obama's case.
_____________

By the way, according to many (most) definitions of the Baby Boom generation, Obama qualifies as a Boomer - people born between 1946 and 1964.

In academic writings, I've seen people born as late as 1966 included.
