Tracking Sex Offenders in Wisconsin and Motel 6

From the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:

Wisconsin residents can now sign up for e-mails notifying them that a registered sex offender has moved into their neighborhood, and access maps of where registered offenders live or work, state officials said today.

State Department of Corrections officials said an agreement with a non-profit group, Family Watchdog, has added mapping and e-mail notification features to the state Sex Offender Registry. Users of the state's online registry at http://www.widocoffenders.org/ can link directly to the http://www.familywatchdog.us/ site, where they sign up for the e-mails and view maps.

In a statement, Gov. Jim Doyle said the new features will give parents, grandparents and neighbors "more information than ever to keep their children and loved ones safe."

This is a useful tool and it's free.

While examining the maps pinpointing the homes of registered offenders, I discovered that the Motel 6 across from General Mitchell International Airport in Milwaukee is home to a sex offender.

According to the website, David G. Miller lives in room 147 at Motel 6, 5037 S. Howell Ave. He's registered for having committed an "offense against children."

According to the WI State Offender Registry, Miller was convicted of Second-Degree Sexual Assault of a Child.

I don't think it's a good idea for a registered sex offender to be LIVING at a Motel 6, where families visiting Milwaukee may stay.

"We'll leave the light on for you."

Creepy.
