How long does it take to update a web page?
Apparently, it takes quite a while when it's TMJ4's news assignment desk at work.
Yes, I'm still talking about the disappearing Brookfield Perkins "Dirty Dining" story, the one that was removed from the TMJ4 website.
The story originally aired on the December 11, 2008, 10:00 PM TMJ4 newscast. It was posted on its website -- briefly. Then, poof!
This is Google's cache of http://www.todaystmj4.com/features/dirtydinning/36018029.html. It is a snapshot of the page as it appeared on Dec 12, 2008 05:55:49 GMT.
BROOKFIELD - A family restaurant not keeping food cold enough. Perkins on Barker Road and Bluemound.
An employee was cracking eggs and then touching customer's food, all without changing gloves. A cross contamination risk. When we stopped by the manager wasn't talking. "You don't want to comment?" "Not really."
Inspectors had issues with food temperature. Meatloaf and sausage were at 45 degrees. Rice was kept at 47 degrees. The safe cold temperature is 41. Also, inspectors found a cooler as warm as 47 degrees, and Hash browns were sitting out at room temperature.
Children's drink cups used as scoops, sitting in food. Perkins was ordered to use a scoop with a handle, so employees don't put their hands in the food. Also, there were open bags of flour stored on the floor. Dry goods must be sealed in a container and kept off the floor.
The manager did tell us Perkins was cleaning things up.
Now, even this cached page has slipped into cyber-oblivion.
I e-mailed the station twice about the removal of the story.
On January 5, 2009, I received a reply to my second inquiry. I was told the news assignment desk was putting it back on the site. They allegedly weren't aware it had been taken off.
Are there leprechauns messing with TMJ4's website? Pages just disappear and no one knows why? Really?
It's January 14. Although the "Dirty Dining" site has been updated to include the January 8 installment, the Perkins story STILL is missing.
I don't believe that the story will be back. Someone took the story off the site, and, for some reason, TMJ4 has no interest in restoring it.
Why? Sloppiness? Laziness?
Did the Brookfield Perkins promise to deliver complimentary muffins to the newsroom? Is that it? I wouldn't think that TMJ4 employees would want to eat food that might be tainted due to cross-contamination.
What's the story?
