Lake Delton is making its return in time for the 2009 summer tourism season.
From the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:
Gov. Jim Doyle said Lake Delton will be refilled by Memorial Day and stocking to restore the fishery will begin this spring.
The lake began to be refilled in December after repairs were made along County Highway A after flooding during the summer of 2008 washed away land separating the lake from the Wisconsin River.
The Department of Natural Resources will begin stocking in early spring and will continue through 2011. Fish will include walleye, smallmouth and largemouth bass, bluegill, black crappie, channel catfish and fathead minnows.
Gov. Jim Doyle's statement
“I am pleased to announce we are confident that Lake Delton will be refilled in time for families throughout the country to enjoy Lake Delton this summer,” said Governor Doyle. “Lake Delton is a Wisconsin treasure and a critical component of the area’s tourism industry. Finishing this project has been a top priority since last year’s flooding. Within a few years fishing on Lake Delton will be better than it has been in generations and a great place to land a trophy walleye and bass.”
This is good news.
Memorial Day can't come soon enough for me.
