Katy Perry: Adam Lambert Cape

Photo: Katy Perry campaigns for Adam Lambert via her cape.

Katy Perry just performed on the American Idol results night.

Video here.

At the beginning of the performance her back was to the audience. She was wearing a white cape.

She held out the cape, spreading it like wings.

On the cape, in red letters, it said "Adam Lambert."

That sort of favoritism was not cool.

I don't think it was appropriate to have that sort of cheerleading for Adam by a guest performer on the show.

I think that discredited Idol a bit.

It was a poor choice for the producers to make.

I thought that was the most amusing part of the show.

I thought it was great!! It wasn't favoritism, it was her freedom of speech and the fact that she knows Adam, by far, is the best on the show.

I have to say that was unfair on my part. Considering that there are only two of them left! This might affect how people will vote.

not cool because your boy went on home tonight

No. That's not it at all.

I don't think it was appropriate. If her cape had said "Danny Gokey" it would have been wrong.

I can't believe that the fans of Kris Allen appreciated the cheerleading for Adam by a performer on the show.

I think that discredited the show a bit.

It was a poor choice for the producers to make.

I think it was totally disrespectful to Danny and Kris. YES its her right to vote for Adam but she was invited on the show to perform not to campaign for votes on Adam Lamberts behalf. If she wants to vote for him she should call like everyone else.. It was so rude and disrespectful of her to do that while the other 2 contestants were there too.

To allow a celebrity endorse a contestant is very poor form. Tsk tsk American Idol!

guys its just A SHOW. hahaha.
besides its ok for katy to do it, she is not one of the judges or a big part of the show!

She is actually a friend of Adam's.
I think it was in reference to him being compared to Elvis, she had an Elvis type costume with Vegas theme.
I think it was a gesture as a friend really, wouldn't you support a friend? I thought it was funny.

Oh, I can't wait to go back home to watch tonight. Very exciting.

I thought it was the BEST part of the show. It shows how appealing Adam is, even to celebrities!
GO ADAM!!!!!!!!!!!!

The cape was in poor taste as is the judges gaga... rock-God BS all season...

Adam is talented so is Chris but they are different talents... with all do respect to Adam he will make it big... but the whole you are wonderful stuff leaves a bad taste in peoples mouths! That and Chris is more middle of the road radio friendly...

Chances are Adam will win but it just goes to show it isn't people's choice the judges fed you Adam every week... and you followed like sheep... so the question remains...

Did America vote what they thought was right?
or... Did America vote what the judges wanted them to vote??

Interesting isn't it!

I didn't know the American Idol television program had any credibility.

Just stumbled onto this blog, but had to comment :O)

I've been a fan of Adam from day 1. With friends and family who work on Broadway (behind the scenes), I found out early that Adam was a really nice man who works his hiney off. I think he's wildly talented and entertaining.

That said, I don't think the sponsor by Katy Perry was a big deal. Not wildly appropriate, maybe, no. But in the end, people who would be influenced by Katy's support of her friend were probably already set to vote for Adam, anyway.

Many celebs over the AI years have given their opinions on who should win. This was done just a bit more publicly.

listen, peole, it was just a friendly gesture of her. Apperently she'd known Adam Lambert before the show and was showing her support!

I don't think it was the producers decision either...i personally believe that she put it on her back because she knew they would cut her mike if she actually started to say that he had a star's support. and if she did the whole cape thing it's not like they could rip it off her or make her get off the stage.

But apperently they weren't too happy about it. Ryan was all frowns and no smiles ^_^

But it should be her choice if she wants to tell people her opinion...it wasn't a very smart thing to do, because now he might not get as much votes because people will think he's already won...but it was still her choice to do so, and she gave a bitchin' performance!

GO ADAM!

I don't know why people are making a fuss, she is his friend and it was on the results show. If it was done on the show before results then maybe it could have influenced voters, but we have another week to go now and people will forget.

Katy Perry = Epic!

producers didn't have any idea about this!!! and it's not bad to show our support for someone !! like katy did!! i think that it was the most amusing part of the performance!!!!! and GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO ADAM !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How do you know producers didn't have any idea about this?

Are you telling me they didn't see her backstage before she went on?

One thing is certain: Perry campaigning for Adam probably has Kris Allen fans really pumped up.

I'm not sure how the millions and millions of Danny Gokey voters will split, but Kris is a very likable underdog.

Unfortunately, Adam's fans have been very critical of Danny. As a result, I think many of Danny's voters will support Kris.

It's too bad that the behavior of some of Adam's fans may actually come back to bite Adam.

How is it an unfair advantage if it's produced as much backlash for Adam as it has encouragement?
People are reacting like it's Adam's fault when it was totally none of his doing, so in the end, the advantage will go to Kris because people feel sorry for him.

I don't believe the producers knew... they probably wouldn't have allowed it.

It was a wardrobe malfunction thats the ticket. Actually if it upset enough people it may cost him some votes. In my opinion the contestants this year have shown to be the best to ever appear and are all very unique. Ryan said the top two were only seperated by 1 million votes out of 88 million total votes for all 3 singers. I wonder where Danny's votes will go?

For the record, most fans have not been critical to Danny. They have been critical to other fans who show hate for Adam because of his lifstyle and his religion. As for Katy Perry, shes her own person, she can show the world who she favors if she likes, but I fear it may of hurt Adam in the voting. But I liked it.

I was very careful to say that SOME of Adam's fans have been terribly cruel to Danny.

I was really shocked to read so much hate being directed toward Danny. What I read did not involve attacks on Danny's fans for their remarks about Adam.

This was just outright ugliness, mocking Danny.

Adam and Danny seemed to get along very well. I remember Adam saying that he and Danny and Kris were like brothers.

It's a shame that so many of their fans don't show them the same respect.

Try a deep cleansing breath.

Adam Lambert is going to win hands down. I can see Chris headlining at a coffee house in Seattle, not selling out auditoriums around the world.

Not only that, his crooked jaw thing annoys the hell out of me.

Mary said...

That was a cheap shot.

Support Adam. Terrific. I think he's great. He didn't win the title, but there's no question he's going on to stardom.

So why do you have to bash Kris?

I don't get why some of Adam's fans have such a mean streak.

I don't think Adam would approve of that crap. He seems like a really nice guy.
