Wisconsin is a swine flu hotbed, with most of the cases being in Milwaukee County.
From the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:
Wisconsin has 613 confirmed cases of the swine flu, including two involving the St. Lawrence Seminary in Fond du Lac County.
...The state Department of Health Services said Thursday that most of Wisconsin's 613 confirmed cases are in Milwaukee County, which now has 424 confirmed cases.
The state's number jumped from 508 on Wednesday. There are no longer any probable cases.
...The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported nearly 4,300 cases of swine flu have been confirmed nationwide, with three deaths.
Here's a map of swine flu cases in the U.S., from the CDC.
Wisconsin is still only second to Illinois in the number of cases.
This is an odd statement from the Journal Sentinel article: "There are no longer any probable cases."
That must be a very temporary situation. At the moment, there aren't any probable cases.
It's not as if there won't be any new infections. The threat isn't over.
I'm sure 613 won't be the final tally in Wisconsin.
It's weird that the hysteria over swine flu seems to have died down even as the virus is spreading.
Mayor Tom Barrett and Gov. Jim Doyle called news conferences over a handful of cases. Now that Wisconsin is in second place in the country for having the most cases, they're MIA.
We need them to spread the word on proper hand-washing techniques. We need them to remind us NOT to use mass transit.
