Katie Couric and Jay Leno

Thursday's Tonight Show seemed like a rerun, but it wasn't.

Katie Couric was Jay Leno's guest.

And what subject did they dredge up? Couric's interview with Sarah Palin!

It was so idiotic. That's ancient history.

Nonetheless, Couric and Leno deemed it relevant. She obviously considers it a highpoint in her career.

Following some other discussion, on cue, Leno brought up the September 2008 interview.

He said, "That was sort of the first crack in the, sort of, Palin armor. They sort of shut down after that interview."

Couric began telling the tale, as if her little interview was a chapter of great significance in American history.

She noted that she was the third person to interview Palin. Charlie Gibson was the first and Sean Hannity was the second.

Leno said he felt that Gibson was patronizing in his interview with Palin, so he looked forward to Couric going one-on-one with Palin.

Couric joked, "You thought, 'Cat fight.'"

Leno shot back, "No, I fantasized 'Cat fight.'"

What Couric lacks in gravitas and class she makes up for in ego.

Although she was the third to speak with Palin on camera, Couric believes that her interview came at a critical time.

As Couric tells it, "I think The Obama campaign was flatlining just a tad. He lost his mojo just a little bit."

To make matters worse, "The McCain-Palin ticket was skyrocketing." She said that people were fascinated with Palin.

But it was Katie to the rescue! Here she comes to save the day!

About her interview with Palin, Couric said, "I really just wanted to give voters a chance to see her approach to very complex world and national issues, and to see how she would analyze certain situations."

Then, Leno showed a clip of the interview. A CLIP OF A SEPTEMBER 2008 INTERVIEW!

There was absolutely no point in doing that other than to mock Palin. She was definitely not at her best when she spoke with Couric.

In the clip, Palin was fumbling around talking about Alaska's proximity to Russia. Couric asked, "How does that enhance your foreign policy credentials?"

The audience was laughing as Palin struggled.

There was no reason to show that clip from that old interview. It served no purpose other than to embarrass Palin. There was no balance whatsoever. She had plenty of moments during the campaign when she expressed herself intelligently and answered questions insightfully.

It was a very cheap shot for Couric and Leno to revisit that interview with such thoroughness. They ate up time in Couric's segment with stale video. Very lame.

Possibly more inappropriate was the way Couric seemed to be crediting herself with bringing down the McCain-Palin campaign and giving Obama his mojo back.

That's right. With that interview, Katie changed the course of history. She's responsible for changing the world.

It was embarrassing watching Couric stroke her ego.

Perhaps the Leno show was dredging up things past, but, as to your comments about Palin....in the interview she was showing exactly what kind of person she was and Palin's only good moments were when she was spreading hate language about the opposing candidates. She is at her best doing that, and that is all she is at her best doing.

So why have Alaskans elected Palin to be their governor?

Do you think they admire how she excels at spreading hate?

They must if that's her only strong point.

It is asinine to think one interview indicates what kind of person they are.

Couric is a disgrace

Absolutely.

Is this the episode where Leno shows Couric the "very thin ice" clip from Auto Tune the News #2? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tBb4cjjj1gI

If you have a recording of that section would you be so kind as to post it to YouTube? I'm dying to see it.

Thanks.
