Eugene Kane: This is the End

When Eugene Kane isn't race-baiting, he will look to the Internet and take swipes at bloggers and the blogosphere to generate a reaction.

He did that earlier this week in his blog post, "The end of blogging?"

Kane blogs:

Just a few years ago, citizen bloggers were all the rage. They were actually going to replace the mainstream media, remember?

No, I don't remember that bloggers were going to replace the mainstream media (aka lib media).

Bloggers were going to provide information that the lib media failed to provide.

They're an alternative news source.

"Citizen bloggers" had many successes, locally and nationally.

Cracking the Dan Rather 60 Minutes George W. Bush National Guard hoax comes to mind.

Seems that movement has been derailed lately as this New York Times piece suggests. Many citizen bloggers are now 'retired' after realizing that wasn't going to happen.

The successful blogs in today's media are actually pretty mainstream, particularly political blogs that are frequently cited by newspaper columnists or editorial writers. The days of solitary citizen bloggers sending their opinons out into the blogosphere to attract attention seem to be a thing of the past.

Naturally, Kane and the NYT would want to sound the death knell for citizen bloggers.

The Internet has leveled the playing field in terms of the dissemination of information. It's not controlled by the media elite. The status quo has been upset. Of course, this upsets Kane and his comrades.

Speaking of "thing of the past," let's talk about print media.

Citizen bloggers aren't at risk of losing their forums. They aren't seeing pay cuts and staff cuts like dead tree, mainstream news outlets.

As this article points out, it's more about Twitter and Facebook these days.

Not really. Not if you're looking for in-depth analysis.

Back in the day, there were some assorted local bloggers in town who used to be more prominent than they are today, mainly because the right-wing mainstream blogs would always cited their stuff. I still read the liberal blog Wallah! on occasion to watch them slam the right-wing crowd, but for the most part, the days of citizen bloggers seems to have passed.

Kane outs himself as a "Wallah!" fan, admitting to his attraction to ugly Internet crap.

Does Kane still hold a grudge against Jessica McBride? That blog was founded to harass McBride. Its content has been terribly abusive at times. I guess Kane likes that stuff.

Note to Gene: It's "Whallah!" You'd think a professional journalist would be more careful.

Clearly, Kane is baiting conservative bloggers.

Boring.

Sure, you can accuse me of being bias because I'm on JSonline. But I have always said, it's not really about the blog, it's about the Internet portal. Like everything else, unless you're being read it's like a tree falling in the forrest.

Is anybody really listerning anymore?

"Forrest"?

"Listerning"?

Kane should use spellcheck. After all, he's a professional blogger.
