Jimmy Smits, "A Capitol Fourth," and Obama

Last night, Jimmy Smits was the host of the PBS special, A Capitol Fourth.

It's an annual celebration of Independence Day, including a concert and fireworks.

Smits was speaking of the Revolutionary spirit. He noted that the American Revolution wasn't just won because of weapons of war. Words and ideas played an extremely important role.

Smits referred to the Declaration of Independence as the "original Audacity of Hope," Obama's 2006 book.

That's insane.

To even remotely connect Obama's book with the Declaration of Independence is a disgrace. It exhibits a shocking lack of historical understanding.

That "original Audacity of Hope" line read by Smits was a terribly inappropriate choice of words.

Obama's agenda is to force Americans into dependency on the government and strip away the people's freedoms.

The Declaration of Independence and Obama?

Give me a break.

Mary,
You are so right, it is a disgrace! After seeing Helen Thomas rip into Gibbs the other day, I do have hope that many the media are coming to their senses, unfortunately, the Hollywood elite will continue to consider him their Messiah. Well, they're welcome to him, his presidency is a sham.

I am a religious person, and I don't mean to sound sacreligious by saying this, but I view the Declaration of Independence as something close to scripture...I think of it as being penned (almost) by the hand of God because it so beautifully and succinctly captures the dignity of the human being as ordained not by man or by government, but by God Himself. It is a poetic and beautiful document, and I believe it could not have been written without divine inspiration. To compare anything ever written or uttered by Barack Obama to that is disgraceful and, well, silly.

It was such a ridiculous and offensive statement.

Talk about audacity!

Can you imagine a book by George W. Bush being equated with the Declaration of Independence?

"The Declaration of Independence was the original Charge to Keep."

I don't think any Bush supporter would ever have made such a claim.
